Translation and opportunities

Hey there all
Is there anyone in this board who has experiences with translations, and publishing it, without having a degree in English؟
I don't have a nice memory about trying to publish a book. I didn't have the specified degree, so all of my hard work was ruined (I'm 16).
Except, that I can invest on it myself, but well for myriad number of reasons, I don't want to, and obvious one is that I don't have any money.
I appreciate every solution.

what was the book (the one you translated?---its name) ...

all in all, your bad memory is not necessarily because of your age, or your lack of degree... the book industry in Iran is quite week and even a professional translation or author has difficulties publishing his/her book and profiting from it...

In Iran it doesn't matter if you're a professional translator, writer, a professor in university, or a 6 year old kid , you should have the money to publish your book.

I think it's about 3million toman. If you have this money, u'll be able to publish whatever you want
No one will invest in your book, unless you have a great reputation or they can be 100% sure that their money will come back and your book will be sold well

So I just think u'd better wait until you have enough money for that

Well a friend of mine, and he's probably about my age, told me that printing a book will cost around 5000000 Rls per se, IF you follow the work by yourself. I don't believe him and I think it costs more than 10000000 rls even if you follow the job. and irreverent he's a liar. anyway, the book that I wanted to translate was "The Shawashank Redemption". the book spontaneously translates itself. no matter how adept or incompetent it would be, nobody would publish it so I gave up. I can't convince anyone to invest unfortunately.

hmm .. I think 1 mil. seems about right.. though your friend could be near the mark also, I've heard that if someone's desperate and the book is light they can do it with less than a mil (specially unknown publisher's go for this approach)

as it was mentioned earlier, even big names in translation and writing (I mean know academicians) have problem publishing their books.. you can guess the rest!
