Regarding any person in a linear set the best approach could be to set the scene before the question:
Where does kennedy come in that list (presidency)?

Or

"Where does kennedy fall in the order of presidency?"
There can be other variations of this. You can change the verb "fall" to "stand" or some other that expresses what you wish to say.
