I turned to find Anne to make sure she was okay. “Do you know who he was? Have you seen him before?” I asked.
“No, Dr. Reeves. I don’t come to my sister’s apartment very often. I don’t know who he is.”
Let me back up a minute: This morning in my office Anne had explained that two days ago, she was supposed to have lunch with her sister, Sarah Salas. When her sister didn’t come to the restaurant,
Anne called Sarah’s apartment. There was no answer.
Anne went to her sister’s apartment right away and knocked on the door, but there was no one home. She called Sarah’s work.
Her boss told Anne that Sarah had been missing for two days. So Anne decided to ask me to help find her sister and her sister’s husband, Bill, who was also missing

برگشتم که Anne رو پیدا کنم و از صحت حالش مطمئن بشم .
ازش پرسیدم : " میدونی این یاو کی بود ؟ قبلا دیده بودیش ؟ "
- " نه دکتر Reeves.من زیاد به خونه ی خواهرم نمیام . نمیدونم این کی بود . "
اجازه بده یه لحظه یه فلش بک به گذشته بزنم ( گذشته رو مرور کنم ) ؛ امروز صبح در دفترم Anne توضیح داده بود که دو روز پیش قرار بود با خواهرش Sara Salas غذا بخوره .
وقتی خواهرش به رستوران نیومد ، Anne با آپارتمان Sara تماس گرفت ؛ ولی کسی جواب نداد .
Anne سریع به آپارتمان خواهرش رفت و در زد ، اما هیچکس خونه نبود . به محل کار Sara زنگ زد ، رئیسش به Anne گفت دو روزه که Sara گم شده .
بنابراین Anne تصمیم گرفت که از من بخواد که خواهر و شوهر خواهرش رو پیدا کنم ، کسی که اونهم گم شده بود .

Part two of 1st episode
I knew he was in pain. I pushed him down to the ground. He fell onto the grass in front of the steps to the apartment building. Now it was my turn to take control.
I stood over him and asked, “Who are you? What do you want?” He didn’t answer. He had a ski hat on, so I couldn’t see his face
“Just get the hell away from this apartment building! You’re not welcome here!” he said.
I grabbed him by the shirt, pushed his face into the ground, and put his arm behind his back. He yelled even louder now. I think he was finally ready to stop fighting.
“Now, who are you? Why can’t I go inside the apartment?” I was getting angry and wanted some answers. I saw a few people come out of the apartment building to see what was happening.
But the man still didn’t say a word. He lifted himself up suddenly, and pushed me away. He looked at me coldly for a second, then ran into the street

قسمت دوم از داستان اول
میدونستم درد داره.من اونو به پایین به طرف زمین هل دادم.اون رو چمنهای نزدیک پله های ورودی ساختمون افتاد.الان نوبت من بود که اونو تحت کنترلم بگیرم.روش وایستادم وپرسیدم:تو کی هستی؟چی میخوای؟
اون جوابی نداد.کلاه سرش بود به همین خاطر نتونستم صورتشو ببینم.
او گفت: فقط جنازه تو از این ساختمون ببر بیرون. اینجا جایی برای تو نیست.
با بلیزش محکم گرفتمش و صورتشو به طرف زمین فشار دادم و بازوش رو به طرف پشتش گذاشتم.اون موقع بلندتر ناله وفریاد میکرد.فکر میکنم آخرش حاضر بود دعوا رو تمومش کنه.ازش پرسیدم: حالا بگو که تو کی هستی؟ وچرا نمیتونم برم داخل آپارتمون؟ من داشتم عصبی میشدم ویه جوابی میخواستم.دیدم تعدادی از مردم از آپارتمان ها بیرون اومدند تا ببینند چه خبره.
اما مرده هنوز یه کلمه هم جواب نداد.یه دفعه خودشو از زمین بلند کرد ومنو به عقب هل داد.برای یه لحظه با سردی بهم نگاه کرد وبعد به طرف خیابون دوید و رفت.

قسمت سوم از داستان اول
من برگشتم تا آنه رو پیدا کنم و مطمئن بشم حالش خوبه.وقتی پیداش کردم ازش پرسیدم:تو این مرد رو میشناختی؟ قبلا اونو دیده بودی؟
اونم جواب داد : نه دکتر ریوز! من خیلی به آپارتمان خواهرم نمی اومدم .اون مرد رو هم نمیشناسم.
اجازه بده داستان یه بار مرور کنم.امروز صبح آنه تو دفترم توضیح داده بود که دو روز پیش آنه با خواهرش سارا سالس قرار داشتند تا باهم نهار بخورند.وقتی خواهرش به رستوران نمیاد اون به شماره آپارتمانش زنگ میزنه ولی کسی جواب نمیده.
آنه همون وقت به آپارتمان خواهرش مراجعه میکنه و در میزنه اما هیچکس خونه نبوده.او به سرکار خواهرش زنگ میزنه و از رئیسش مطلع میشه که سارا دو روز سرکار نرفته.در نهایت آنه تصمیم میگیره که از من بخواد که تو یافتن خواهر وشوهرخواهرش که هردو گم شده اند کمکش کنم.

برگشتم تا ببینم آنه حالش خوبه یا نه.
ازش پرسیدم :" میدونی کی بود؟ تا حالا دیده بودیش؟"
"نه ، دکتر ریوس ، من خیلی خونه ی خواهرم نمیام. نمیدونم اون کیه"
یه مروری رو گذشته بکنیم: امروز صبح تو دفترم آنه جریانو اینجوری تعریف کرد که دو روز پیش ، قرار بوده که نهار پیش خواهرش سارا سالاس باشه.وقتی سارا به رستوران نرفته ،آنه به خونه ی خواهرش زنگ میزنه اما کسی جواب نمیده.
آنه همون موقع میره خونه سارا و در میزنه اما کسی خونه نبوده.به محل کارش زنگ میزنه ، رئیس سارا میگه 2 روزه که سارا سرکار نیومده.براهمین آنه تصمیم میگیره برای پیدا کردن سارا و شوهرش -بیل- که اونم گمشده بود ، از من کمک بگیره.

Some of my students know I’m an amateur detective. Before I became a university professor five years ago, I had a real job. I worked for a security agency that protected private homes, and also important people like famous actors and politicians. I learned a lot about criminals. I had also learned a lot about police work from my father, who was a cop for 34 years.

I had wanted to become a police officer, too. But that was impossible. I got into some trouble when I was a kid. It was a stupid high school trick, but because I was 18-years-old, I was treated like an adult. I was arrested by the police, convicted, and now I have a police record. With a criminal record, I can never be a cop.

I worked for awhile as a bodyguard. One of my cases was protecting a famous history professor. He and I became friends, he helped me go to college and now I, too, am a professor.

آبجو و سيگار

بعضي از دانشجوهام ميدونن من يه کارآگاه بي تجربه ام.پنج سال پيش، قبل از اينکه يه استاد دانشگاه بشم،يه شغل اصيل داشتم.براي يه آژانس(نمايندگي)امنيتي که از اقامتگاه هاي محرمانه و همچنين آدماي مهم مثل بازيگرا و سياستمداراي مشهور محافظت ميکرد کار مي کردم.از پدرم هم که 34 سال پليس بود،چيزاي زيادي درمورد عملکرد پليس ياد گرفتم.منم مي خواستم که يه افسر پليس بشم اما غيرممکن بود.وقتي بچه بودم چندبار تو دردسر افتادم.اگرچه يه شوخي دبيرستاني احمقانه بود ولي چون هجده سالم بود مثل يه بزرگسال باهام برخورد کردن
توسط پليس دستگير شدم، محکوم شدم و حالا يه سوء پيشينه پليسي دارم.با وجود يه سوء پيشينه جزائي، هرگز نميتونم يه پليس بشم.مدتي به عنوان جان پاس* کار کردم.يکي از موردهام محافظت از يه استاد تاريخ معروف بود.
من و اون با هم دوست شديم،اون کمکم کرد که به دانشگاه راه پيدا کنم و حالا ،من هم يه استاد دانشگاه هستم.

*جان پاس یه معادل برای بادیگارد هست، بعضی جاها جان پای هم گفتن ولی جان پاس بیشتر توصیه شده!(جفتش به نظرم نمیتونن حسی که بادیگارد به آدم میده رو بدن!)

بعضی از دانشجوهام می دونستند که من یه کاراگاه غیرحرفه ای(تازه کار)هستم. پنج سال پیش قبل از اینکه پروفسور دانشگاه بشم، یه کار خوب داشتم. برای یه آژانس امنیتی کار می کردم که از منازل شخصی حفاظت می کرد و بادیگارد افراد مهم مثل هنرپیشه های معروف و افراد سیاسی بود. خیلی چیزها درمورد مجرمین یادگرفتم. همچنین چیزای زیادی درمورد کار پلیس از پدرم که برای 34 سال پلیس بود، یادگرفته بودم. من هم دوست داشتم یه پلیس بشم. ولی این غیر ممکن بود. بچه که بودم چندبار دردسر درست کردم(باعث اغتشاش شدم). یه شوخی احمقانه در دوره راهنمایی، اما چون 18 سالم بود، مثل بزرگسال ها باهام رفتار کردن. توسط پلیس بازداشت شدم، محکوم شدم، و حالا سوء سابقه دارم و نمی تونم پلیس باشم.
مدتی به عنوان بادیگارد کار می کردم. یکی از پرونده هام، محافظت از یک استاد معروف تاریخ بود. من و اون دوست های خوبی شده بودیم، اون کمکم کرد تا وارد دانشگاه بشم و حالا من هم استاد دانشگاهم.
