9 Di Caprio's 'joy' at Obama election

    Friday, November 7, 2008

Leonardo Di Caprio attends the premiere of Body Of Lies

Leonardo Di Caprio spoke of his joy at the election of Barack Obama at the red carpet premiere of his CIA thriller

The US heartthrob was joined by British director Sir Ridley Scott at the UK opening of the movie, Body of Lies last night.
"I feel like a great weight has been lifted off of our country's shoulders. He promised change and all we can do as a country right now is support him," said Di Caprio.
"There is a new generation of people who have spoken in our country and have called out for a new president and new administration."
He continued: "This has changed everything and I think every election is going to be different from now on.

Leo signs autographs for fans while Kylie's ex Oliver Martinez drops in to see the film

"I think this positive reaction has reverberated around the world and it's going to make things beautiful for the future."
He added: "I stayed up all night to listen to his victory speech."
Blood Diamond star Di Caprio, 33, plays a US intelligence agent on the hunt for a terrorist leader who has orchestrated a bombing campaign.
Russell Crowe, 44, who plays CIA veteran Ed Hoffman in the film, did not join his co-star at the UK premiere at the Vue Leicester Square in central London.
Di Caprio and Oscar-winner Crowe previously worked together on the 1995 movie The Quick and the Dead.
Di Caprio said it was not a difficult decision to work on the project.
"It's a no brainer to me to work with the great Ridley Scott who has made a masterpiece in every genre of cinema," he said.
He said the film was a realistic portrayal of the CIA.
He added: "It says something about the world we live in but it's simultaneously entertaining

    Posh at LAX airport

Victoria Beckham has jetted back to London dressed in an outfit mixing high fashion with biker chic. Wearing a £1,000 Belstaff 'Cat' jacket and a pair of high-heeled Christian Louboutin boots with a cap and sunglasses, Posh Spice looked more Biker Spice and cut an imposing figure at Los Angeles' LAX airport

She didn't say a word as she strode through the departures lounge trailed by photographers

Her trip to London comes as hubby David Beckham announced he is to spend three months in Italy with football club AC Milan
Victoria will stay in Los Angeles with the couple's children, a decision that is believed to have caused friction in the marriage

پيش فرض Kidman Refuses A Nanny For Sunday Rose

Nicole Kidman is refusing to hire a nanny to look after her baby daughter Sunday Rose, even if it jeopardises her acting career.

The Australian star is besotted with the four-month-old - whose dad is Kidman's husband, country star Keith Urban - and can't yet bring herself to leave her alone for a second.

But she admits she will have to let go eventually - or face retiring from acting altogether.

The actress tells Glamour magazine, "I can't bear to be separated from Sunday Rose. That's why I haven't got a daytime nanny, but at some stage I probably will have one." l

پيش فرض Madonna, Oprah, other celebs react to Obama's win

    11/05/2008 3:00 PM, AP

. Madonna doesn't do anything small

The Material Girl celebrated Barack Obama's victory Tuesday night with a glittering rally of her own, leading thousands of fans at her concert in San Diego with a rousing introduction to her song "Express Yourself."

In a video posted on YouTube, Madonna claps her hands and declares, "This is a historical evening! ... We are lucky to be sharing it with each other!"
. Other celebrity supporters of Obama echo Madonna's good cheer

Oprah Winfrey, who cried during the celebration in Chicago's Grant Park, told the TV show "The Insider": "I was so, so, so excited and then just sort of a calm came over me. It feels like it actually is kind of real, so it feels great."

Asked what this means for the country, she said, "It means democracy at its finest. It's just the best. We did this. America did this."
George Clooney said in a statement: "I congratulate President-elect Obama on his historic victory, and now it's time to begin unifying the country so we can take on the extraordinary challenges that this generation faces."

Actress Scarlett Johansson, who stumped for Obama throughout his campaign, said the "overwhelming hope that Obama inspires is infectious."
"I've always maintained a strong faith in the power of Obama's positive campaign and am so proud of every citizen who took a stand, participated in the political process and insisted their voices be heard," Johansson said in a statement.

Singer John Mellencamp reflected on the election on his Web site, saying he never thought he'd see the day when "a man of color could be president of the United States. But today I am so proud of America."
Singer Colbie Caillat, who cried when Obama won, said she thinks "our country is in safe hands."
Stars including Lindsay Lohan, Michael Moore and Kanye West posted messages online.
Reacting on her Myspace page, Lohan gushed, "OBAMA IS OUR PRESIDENT!" and said that everyone who voted, "no matter their choice ... should be proud for voting in the first place."
West, whose mother Donda died last November, posted a portrait of the president elect on his blog with the message: "HI MOM, OBAMA WON!"

Meanwhile, director-provocateur Moore responded on his Web site, saying, "Who among us is not at a loss for words? Tears pour out. Tears of joy. Tears of relief. A stunning, whopping landslide of hope in a time of deep despair."

Even more stunning: a concession from John McCain supporter Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who said Wednesday on TV's "The View" that she'll follow Obama's lead
"I will jump in that line and support our president because that is what as an American I believe we should do," said Hasselbeck, who received a fist bump from co-host Whoopi Goldberg

پيش فرض Hoffman Backtracks Over Penguin Role

Latest: Philip Seymour Hoffman has backtracked over the possibility he might be playing The Penguin in a new Batman movie - insisting he is not the best actor for the part.

Hoffman is tipped to be the favourite to play the supervillain in the next installment of the caped crusader franchise, but he has yet to be officially signed to the project.

The Oscar-winner recently announced that he would be delighted to take on the role, because he was such a fan of the original comics.

But Hoffman now insists he would prefer to see another actor play the legendary bad guy.

He says, "To be quite honest, I don't know whether I would be a good Penguin. I think I'm more interested in seeing someone else do it." l

پيش فرض Miller Confirms Getty Split

Latest: British actress Sienna Miller has confirmed her split from married oil heir and actor Balthazar Getty - criticising the media for making relationships in the spotlight too difficult.

The Alfie star has been romantically linked to Getty since the summer when they were spotted together in Prague in the Czech Republic, on the set of Miller's new movie GI Joe. But the pair was rumoured to have split earlier this month.

The romance sparked a media frenzy and Miller is convinced that the press interest in their relationship added to their problems.

She tells Usmagazine.com, "I'm single at the moment, and I'm completely happy with that. It's nice not to have a relationship that the press constantly want to scrutinise and discuss."

But the star insists she is fine with their decision to part ways, adding, "I'm cool with being on my own." l

پيش فرض Winslet Was 'Misled' Over Fur Photos

British actress Kate Winslet has denied she knowingly wore fur for a recent photoshoot with Vanity Fair magazine - insisting she thought the garment was fake.

The Titanic star s*tripped off for a Catherine Deneuve-inspired shoot, posing provocatively on a sofa wearing nothing but stockings and high heels, with the grey fur throw draped across her shoulders.

Winslet was subsequently criticised by animal rights campaigners, who accuse the actress of glamorising the wearing of real pelts.

But Winslet insists she didn't know the garment was made of genuine fox fur.

Her spokeswoman says, "She thought it was false. There was apparently false fur there and real fur there. And she definitely understood it was false. Kate never wears fur. She's very firm on that."

A representative for Vanity Fair magazine adds, "The fur used in the photograph was real. We thought Miss Winslet was aware of this and we're sorry for the miscommunication." l

پيش فرض Happy Holidays for James Bond? Lump of Coal for Tom Cruise?

The holidays should be green for James Bond. Maybe less so for Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

That's the consensus opinion of box office experts asked to weigh in with their picks for the hits—and potential misses—of Hollywood's holiday season, which, no matter what your calendar says, starts today

    .

Will Will Smith's Seven Pounds weigh in? Was Beverly Hills Chihuahua just the warm-up act for Bolt?
    Let the guessing begin.
Top Five Holiday Hits (Films Listed in Alphabetical Order):
    Gitesh Pandya, Box Office Guru:
    • Madagascar 2: Escape 2 Africa (opening this weekend) • Quantum of Solace (the new 007 movie, opening Nov. 14) • The Day the Earth Stood Still (sci-fi remake, opening Dec. 12) • Twilight (teen vampire saga based on best-seller, opening Nov. 21) • Yes Man (Jim Carrey high-concept comedy, opening Dec. 19) Jeff Bock, Exhibitor Relations:
    • Bedtime Stories (Adam Sandler fantasy comedy, opening Dec. 25) • Bolt (animated dog movie, opening Nov. 21) • The Day the Earth Stood Still • Madagascar 2 • Quantum of Solace Paul Dergarabedian, Media by Numbers:
    • Bolt • Madagascar 2 • Quantum of Solace • Seven Pounds (opening Dec. 19) • Twilight High-profile movies that weren't mentioned included: the Kidman-Hugh Jackman epic Australia (opening Nov. 26); Ron Howard's Frost/Nixon (opening Dec. 5)—think Couric/Palin, only with bigger ideas and more Oscar buzz; Cruise's Nazi Germany thriller Valkyrie (opening Dec. 26); and Brad Pitt's age-defying The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (opening Dec. 25).
Does that mean the experts think those films are destined to be this season's Fred Claus? No, not necessarily.
The biggest question mark is Australia. Bock thinks it could sneak into the ranks of the big hits. But Pandya thinks that while it's destined to be an international success, it'll be a tougher sell here.
Dergarabedian just can't tell with Benjamin Button. "How commercial it's going to be, nobody knows," he says.
Chad Hartigan, another analyst for Exhibitor Relations, thinks Seven Pounds might be an underperforming movie for Smith, Hollywood's most bankable star.
Bock isn't sold on Valkyrie's box office prospects—nothing personal against Cruise. Or Frost/Nixon, either.
"Both films may be good, but regardless, they have very limited audiences," Bock said in an email. "Escapism is still the order of the day. And shopping."
