Degree Day
Deviation of one degree temperature for one day from an arbitrary standard, usually the long-term average temperature for a place.
WEATHER&METEOROLOGY:
DEGREE DAY
A measure of the departure of the mean daily temperature from a given standard. That is one degree day for each degree (Fahrenheit or Celsius) of departure above or below the standard during one day. Refer to cooling degree day and heating degree day.
Glossary of petroleum Industry:
degree-day
a unit of temperature and time, computed per day, equivalent to the difference between a 65 F base and a daily mean temperature (when the latter is less than 65 F). The total of degree-days for a given period of time can be used to estimate energy requirements such as the amount of fuel oil needed to heat a building.
