Brief introduction to Lean Construction and its advantages
Building industry is characterized by a high share of non-value-adding activities and suffers from high cost, inefficiencies and many problems, in productivity, innovation, slipping schedules, rework, quality, disputes, which all are signs of waste, and concept of Lean Construction (LC) is solution to all of them.
It´s a modern way and philosophy to improve construction performance and labor productivity, which:
- Gives customers what they want, deliver it instantly and without any waste with using fewer resources.
- Improves the Architectural/Engineering/Construction process as well as product.
- Flows value creating work steps while eliminates waste in all forms, materials, time, and effort, by focusing on fast cycle times.
- Benefits construction industry greatly by changing every aspect of end-to-end design construction and use process.
- Provides the foundation for a new form of project management and produces significant improvements particularly on complex, uncertain, and quick projects.
- Improves Value-adding activities through internal continuous improvement by empowering all workers to contribute in your continuous improvement efforts, by asking them to make their work easier and more interesting, to cut the costs, to improve quality and to reduce delivery times. And you can learn from them by listening and supervising them.
- Looks at environment as a customer, by meeting customer´s requirements in the best possible manner as well as eliminating of value loss, which leads to sustainable development
By LC, your project has a predictable and reliable work, is structured and managed as a value generating process, and experiences improvements in design team and trade contractor relationships, communication, scope definition, coordination, cost and schedule performance.
