The Sony Ericsson LT28at model has appeared in the AnTuTu benchmark. This is interesting for several reasons. Firstly the ‘at‘ part in the model number suggests that this variant will run on the AT&T network in the United States. More than likely it will be compatible with AT&T’s 21MBps HSPA+ 4G network, much like the Xperia PLAY 4G (R800at).

Secondly, the performance numbers from the benchmark put it on a near identical level to the Sony Ericsson LT26i (Nozomi), which also appeared on AnTuTu recently. This probably means that it will come with a dual-core 1.5GHz chipset like Nozomi and could even be the US version of that handset. However, if that were the case we imagine Sony Ericsoon would have used model number LT26at.

Even more confusing is that that the Sony Ericsson LT28i delivered a much, much lower score on the same benchmark (2443 versus 6240 for the LT28at). If the LT28at and LT28i are very different phones (as the benchies suggest), why are the model numbers so similar? If you look at the Xperia PLAY it has a consistent model number (R800i, R800a, R800x, R800at) across variants. We’re still scratching our head on this discrepancy, but we hope it all becomes clear soon.

Some new firmware (4.0.2.D.0.4) was recently certified for the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc and Xperia neo (including the arc S and neo V). We’ve got no idea what changes this will bring, but Siddharth Sai G (the Sony employee who believes Android ICS is coming in January) said that the ‘D’ in the firmware signifies this is a developer release and that 4.0.2.D.0.4 is in fact Android 4.0.1.

We’re not so sure that this is the case as normally every new major Android build normally sees SE adopt the next major jump in its firmware numbering. If you remember, the latest firmware currently rolling out in some regions is 4.0.2.A.0.58 (Android 2.3.4). The Xperia PLAY also saw a new firmware version (3.0.1.B.0.285) certified by the PTCRB. Siddharth Sai G says that this release is Android 2.3.6, although the ‘3’ which headlines the firmware version makes us believe it may be a previous Android version. We’re sure all will become clear soon.

Update: We have received word from a trusted source on what is written above. We have been told that 4.0.2.D.0.4 firmware is definitely NOT Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The ‘D’ in the firmware stands for branded firmware for NTT DoCoMo in Japan. The 3.0.1.B.0.285 firmware for the Xperia PLAY is related to AT&T and is NOT Android 2.3.6

If you thought saying Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini pro was a mouthful then you will be happy to know that at least one word out of that enormous name will be dropped by next year.

As we already know, Sony had announced their intent to acquire the Ericsson's stake in Sony Ericsson back in October. The transaction was said to complete sometime in January, 2012.

Now, however, we know that the name change to simply 'Sony' (which was inevitable) won't happen before mid-2012. Also, once Sony takes over, the brand will only concentrate on selling smartphones, with the current feature phones being dropped completely.

Kristian Tear, executive VP and head of sales and marketing at Sony Ericsson, while speaking to the Times of India, said:

"A lot of planning goes into getting the branding right but we will be done by middle of next year. It will also mean that the marketing and advertising investments will go up. We haven't been as fierce as we were a few years back but we will step it up, refocus and invest more in brand-building in select markets and India is one of those markets."

With their focus now being solely on smartphones, we can expect a lot better ones from Sony Ericsson in the future. Sorry, we meant from Sony.

قبلا گفته شده بود که با خریدن سهام اریکسون توسط سونی ، ایکسپریا پلی 2 کنسل شد ... ولی الان رئیس بخش آمریکای شمالی گفته که دوباره به جریان افتاده!؟

فري من فك كنم يكي از اصلي ترين دلايل جدايي سوني از اريكسون همين قضيه پلي استيشينه!

سوني ميدونست اگه يه پي اس پي فون حقيقي بزنه پول زيادي رو كه حق خودش بود رو اين وسط اريكسون هم مرده خور كنه


من حدسم اينه بعد از اين قضيه جدايي سوني پي اس پي رو ديگه بيباره رو گوشي ! مخصوصا كه الان پلت فورماي سخت افزاري حقي هم ارائه شده براي ساپورت بازي ها
