Do you think it is possible to communicate with your computer by speaking to it rather than using the mouse and keyboard ? discuss it with other students, and then read the following interview with an expert in voice-input technologies.

Voice-input Technologies

Interviewer : Mobile phones and the internet have changed the way we communicate. However, we still need the keyboard and the mouse to communicate with computers .when will we be able to interact with PCs by voice ?
Expert : The technology already exists, but people are not in the habit of talking to a computer yet.
Interviewer : what are the basic parts of a speech-recognition system?
Expert : basically, you need speech-recognition software, a sound card, and a microphone. If you want to have good results, you should get a high-quality headset microphone.
Interviewer : what sort of things can you do with a speech-recognition system ?
Expert : The system changes voice into text, so you can dictate text directly onto your word processor or email program.
Interviewer : But is dictation accurate? I mean does the system understand all the words correctly?
Expertand : The system is quite accurate if you train the software by reading aloud a sample text for a few minutes. This teaches the Program to recognize words that are not in its built-in dictionary; for example, proper names , abbreviations, etc.
Interviewer : can you execute programs and navigate around menus and windows?
Expertand : yes, you can control PC by voice commands. Some system even let you search the web or chat by voice , using your voice instead of the keyboard.
Interviewer : That sounds exciting. And how do you see the future of speech recognition ?
Expertand : In a few years ‘ time ,i think a lot of people will use their voices to interact with computers .someday , we’ll be talking to our PC naturally like a friend.

به نظرتون ممکنه که بدون استفاده از ماوس و کی برد با کامپیوترتون ارتباط برقرار کنید؟در مورد این قضیه با دانش آموز-دانشجوهایی دیگه بحث کنید و بعد مصاحبه زیر رو که با یه متخصص در زمینه "فن آوری های ارتباط صوتی به رایانه" انجام شده ، بخونید:

مصاحبه گر: تلفن های همراه و اینترنت، روشها و چگونگی ارتباط ما انسانها رو متحول کرده اند .. با این حال، ما هنوز هم برای ارتباط با کامپیوتر نیاز به ماوس و کی برد داریم . آیا زمانی فرا می رسه که با استفاده از صوت با کامپیوتر ارتباط برقرار کنیم؟

مصاحبه گر: چه نوع کارهایی با سیستم تشخیص صدا قابل انجام هستند؟


متخصص: سیستم صدا را به متن تبدیل می کند ، در نتیجه شما می توانید متن مورد نظرتان را مستقیماً به برنامه ی کلمه پرداز (ویرایشگر متن) یا نرم افزار ایمیل خود دیکته کنید.


مصاحبه گر: اما آیا دیکته کردن دقیق است؟ منظورم این است که آیا سیستم تمام کلمات را به درستی دریافت می کند؟


متخصص: اگر شما قبلاً یک متن ساده را برای چند دقیقه با صدای بلند برای نرم افزار بخوانید و بدین ترتیب نرم افزار را آماده کنید ، سیستم در کار خود بسیار دقیق است. با این کار ، برنامه تعلیم می بیند که کلماتی را که در دیکشنری خودش موجود نیست را تشخیص دهد ؛ به طور مثال ، اسامی خاص ، مخفف ها و ...

* اتفاقاً هفته پیش داشتم سریال sopranos اواخر فصل دوم رو میدیدم که دختر این خانواده داره خبر قبولی اش رو اعلام میکنه .. که مثلا برکلی قبول شده، پن استیت قبول شده، فلان جا تو لیست ذخیره اس و به همین ترتیب ... خلاصه همینطوری از سر کنجکاوی یکی دوتا از این دانشگاه های که اسمشون رو کمتر شنیدم بودم رو چک کردم دیدم همگی رنک های بسیار بالایی دارن (زیر #50) ... آدم نرخ ورودی (نسبت متقاضی به پذیرش) و کیفیت دانشگاه ها رو که می دید، تاسف می خورد که هم اعتبارشون بسیار بالاست و هم روال ورودشون منطقی تر ... اون استرس و هزینه (روحی و مالی) و زمانی که از بچه های ما میره صرفاً برای ورود به دانشگاه های ایران رو مقایسه کنیم با وضع اینا!! ...
