This experience is to simulate rain and to test for water damage. The N900 was subjected to 2 different tests with 2 environments – an indoor test at 20 degrees Celcius, and an outdoor test at 0 degrees Celcius. We wanted to see if a colder temperature would have any affect in damaging the phone. Shortly after the initial filming has been finished for this video, the N900 stopped working.
At the corner of my eye, I noticed that the N900’s screen had suddenly turned off. I assumed that the battery has simply died, as the phone wasn’t charged prior this experiment. However, it became obvious that there were issues after I was unable to get the phone to turn on after plugging the USB cable into the phone (Like the Nokia N97, the N900 can charge via the USB cable).
Shortly after filming our response, I filled an airtight container with white rice and stuck the N900 inside. All over the internet, users have said that rice was the key to saving your device from water damage. We will leave the N900 in the rice for 24-48 hours. Hopefully all goes well and we can continue more tests that requires the phone to be on!
Note: From our experience , we would highly recommend that you avoid exposing your Nokia N900 in heavy rainy weather
