i think just like Fara360 ,504 is the best book !

but it might be a good idea to use vocabulary in use(intermediate)book at first.

ooooH ! I have a some good news and Some bad news... I found a book named "Essential Grammar In Use " it's exactly that book ... but it's Second edition but what you introduced is Third Edition ... I hope they don't differ from each other that much

I m studing essential grammar in use third edition . I think it s very helpul .
third edition n second ediion have some differences but they aren t much
third edition has just some more lesson n some exercises has changed

i do agrre with step to underestand, i think it has four levels, i think the two last are better
