helped me out a lot and didn't drop FPS.
EDIT: TIL you can't bold inside of code.
I'm surprised none mentionned this...
I have a fix that should even gives you increase in fps as much as less blocky shadows. At least, for me it worked.
What most people do, which is wrong, is that they increase the shadowmap resolution. It's wrong mainly because it has a big cost on memory, and some people can't even afford it.
What I did, and what you should do unless you're incredibly picky on distances, is to lower the shadow distance. What happen is that the distance stretches the shadowmap, giving a lower resolution, therefore, a blocky effect. You probably don't need a huge distance for the shadowmap, all you need is to make sure it fades away, and you won't notice it (you will notice it if you put no fade and let it pop like that).
What I mentionned can be found in the config file of SkyrimPref.ini
What I've put for myself, but isn't important if you can't afford it, is :
iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=4096
iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=4096
iShadowMapResolution=4096
(because I can afford it with my card, if you can't, don't play with these, it's generally only minor like change)
and the important configs (the part that increase quality and probably fps) :
fInteriorShadowDistance=2000.0000
fShadowDistance=2000.0000
fShadowLODStartFade=1000.0000
These settings worked for me, but you can increase/decrease them to your liking. Remember to keep a backup, unless you have good memory. I had fShadowDistance at 8000, which is way too much for me, because I won't really notice shadows that are far away, and it was the cause for incredibly low shadow quality. With lower distance, the shadowmap focuses quality on a smaller distance.
The LODStartFade is the distance at which the shadow starts to fade away, at least, to my understanding.I'll probably try a little lower for something smoother like fading, because with 1000 I can notice it... I think the default setting was 200 only, so you're not obligated to change it.· Going into your Skyrim.ini file (Steam/userapps/common/skyrim/Skyrim) and finding the line that contains
