Synthetic benchmarks
The current Meizu MX software has the processor running at 1.2GHz rather than its nominal speed of 1.4GHz. There's a more recent version of the OS (still beta) that runs it at full speed, but we tested the stable version, which most people are likely to use.
The Meizu MX has an interesting setting inside the Accessibility section of the Settings menu - a CPU Level option with three choices (High, Normal and Low). We ran the benchmarks at High. Low is more power-efficient but with it, the Meizu MX scored 30% less on Linpack.
It's rare for a phone to give you such a performance tweak out of the box without any tinkering.
Anyway, BenchmarkPi and Linpack show results similar to those of the Samsung Galaxy S II as you would expect. The software behaved strangely though, it performed great after a fresh restart, with the results gradually declining.

The Mali-400MP GPU did very well at the graphics benchmark, almost matching the Galaxy S II, which has about 60% fewer pixels on its screen. Android games will run buttery smooth on the Meizu MX.

When it came to browser benchmarks, the Meizu MX posted practically identical results to the Samsung Galaxy S II despite an advantage in clock speed. Here the Sensation XE maintains a healthy lead thanks to HTC's excellent browser optimizations.
