    5 Flipping unusual footwear

    Tuesday, October 14, 2008

An artist is breaking the mould in the fashion world with his heeled polyester flippers.
Paul Schietekat's High Tide Heels come in a variety of colours – but they are not designed to be worn.
Instead they are meant to be a comical comment on climate change and rising sea levels.
'Humour is a very important element in my designs,' said the 45-year-old Belgian-based artist

    10 'Feud over Cowell's £12,500 a minute'

by ANDREI HARMSWORTH - Tuesday, October 14, 2008

    Si and Paula in scrap?

Simon Cowell has sparked a pay row with his fellow American Idol judge – after a former producer revealed he got £12,500 a minute.
The 49-year-old's £20.5million salary has rankled Paula Abdul, 46, who is rumoured to get up to £2.5million a year.
'Paula knew Simon was getting paid more but she never imagined it was this much more,' revealed one insider on the hit US show

'She has a lot of concerns. It's ridiculously obvious she's getting pennies compared with Simon.'
Meanwhile, Britain's Got Talent's Piers Morgan revealed Cowell perches on cushions in his judge's seat to look taller.
'If you look carefully, Simon grows. When we're on Britain's Got Talent he's smaller then me, then his three pillows arrive and he's taller,' Morgan, 43, told guests at the Black Sheep pub in east London

7 Chef cooked kebab next to corpse

    Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Jaswinder Singh cooked kebabs next to body

A catering boss has been banned from working with food after he was caught making kebabs while a workmate lay dead in the same room on a sofa.
Jaswinder Singh, 45, continued cooking while surrounded by flies at the Pappu Sweet Centre & Catering in Wolverhampton despite the sudden death of one of his colleagues.
He was given a life ban from working in the food industry at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court.
District Judge Martin Brown said: 'The facts in this case are extraordinarily serious, they are about as grave as one might get in such a case

Singh was caught cooking beside the dead worker in August by a police officer investigating the employee's death. The officer closed the premises immediately.
Police were called after reports of the sudden death, which was not found to be suspicious.
The premises was in a filthy condition - a dead rat was found under a pan in the kitchen, food was mouldy and staff were smoking and spitting on the floor.
The business was infested with rodents - droppings and gnawed ingredients were found.
As well as being banned from managing any food business in future, Singh was ordered to pay £3,861 in fines and costs

10 Madonna slammed over handgun heels

by ROSS McGUINNESS - Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Madonna wore the pistol stilettos to the premiere of her new film

Madonna has been branded 'uncaring' by a British murder victims' group after she controversially stepped out at the premiere of her new movie wearing a pair of shoes with handgun heels.
The 50-year-old singer wore the pistol stilettos at the New York screening of Filth And Wisdom, her directorial debut.
Instead of a normal heel, the Chanel shoes have a piece of metal in the shape of a gun. The 'Miami Vice' shoe, made from plexiglass, is about to be sold across the world, and is the brainchild of designer Karl Lagerfield.
But Madonna's fashion faux pas has been slammed by a UK victims' group.
Lyn Costello, from Mothers Against Murder And Aggression (MAMAA), said: 'I am horrified that Madonna can see these shoes as fashion

'As a mother herself I would have thought that she would have paused for a second and thought about all the young people here and in her own country that have died because of gun crime

'We need the whole of society to take responsibility and action in stopping the glamourisation of weapons.
'Celebrities have a massive part to play and an icon like Madonna should have more sense.
'It's uncaring. Surely she reads the news and realises that young people are dying every day.'
Ms Costello even invited the pop star to contact MAMAA so she could see the devastation caused by gun crime.
'When designers, stylists and celebs choose to turn weapons like guns and knives into fashion accessories we have to question the message they are sending to their fans,' she added.
Just last month, pop singer Lily Allen made a similar mistake when she wore a necklace with a machine gun pendant

پيش فرض New mum Christina will still se* it up

EXCLUSIVE by ANDREI HARMSWORTH - Sunday, October 5, 2008

Christina Aguilera vows to 'let loose' when she hits town next week for the first time since having baby Max in January.
The 27-year-old called me from LA to promise British fans that her famous s.e.xed-up routines won't be toned down just because of motherhood.
She has been struggling to haul herself back into shape for her headline gig at THISDAY's Africa Rising Festival on October 14 at the Royal Albert Hall
'I am not a fan of working out whatsoever. I am building up my stamina as we speak,' she admits. 'It's been a while since I have put on such a long show and since having a baby.'
Excited about her son's first jaunt to the capital, she says: 'It is important to show Max what mommy does. It is really important to me is that he is an individual and that's why it is important for me to stay true to myself. If it happens to be raunchy so be it! It's a matter of self expression to me.'
She adds that Max's birth has inspired her to 'see the world through new eyes' and to 'be a kid again with a futuristic electronica direction'.
On her Britney Spears rivalry, Aguilera swears she hasn't been monitoring her new 'Womanizer' show.
'Honestly, I haven't. I've been so sort of in my own creative cave. But no, it's a great feeling to still be in the game with somebody that you have known for so many years, even going back to the Mickey Mouse club. We had so much fun together.'
But she adds: 'At this stage in our lives, we are so different I don't think you can put us in the same ball park

5 'First fish had wrists and elbows'

    Wednesday, October 15, 2008

    Tiktaalik fish had neck

The first 'fish' to walk out of the sea 375million years ago was able to survive out of water because it had developed a neck, wrist and elbow.
The crocodile-like Tiktaalik Roseae had fins and gills but also features found only in land-living animals.
Four years after the fossil was uncovered, scientists have pieced together the inner workings of its head, braincase, palate and gill arch skeleton.
These show how the Tiktaalik was able to support itself on solid ground and breathe air, further substantiating the theory that it really is the missing link between fish and land-based creatures

The bones of the 3m-long predator were uncovered in Arctic Canada. It has a flattened head and sharp teeth.
Like fish, it had fins with webbing and scales on its back. But it also had a flat head with eyes positioned on top and the beginnings of a neck.
The position of the creature's eyes suggest it probably lived in shallow water, scientists believe.
Palaeontologist Dr Ted Daeschler, who discovered Tiktaalik, said the study highlighted that the gradual transition from aquatic to terrestrial lifestyles required much more than the evolution of limbs.
'Our work demonstrates that, across this transition, the head of these animals was becoming more solidly constructed and, at the same time, more mobile with respect to the body,' he told Nature

9 Drunk pony takes a 3am pool dip

    Wednesday, October 15, 2008

    Fat Boy makes a splash

A greedy pony who got drunk after gorging on apples had to be rescued by fire crews after falling into a swimming pool.
The brown Moorland Pony, appropriately named Fat Boy, made a splash after breaking into a garden for a late night snack.
Fat Boy, and another equine partner in crime, wandered off from their stables, lured by the property's apple tree - but had one too many

Because the fruit had already started to rot and ferment, the horses soon began to show the effects.
Punch drunk Fat Boy then stumbled into the pool, which was covered by a tarpaulin sheet, at the bungalow in Newquay, Cornwall.
Homeowner, Sarah Penhaligon, 28, could not believe her eyes when she awoke at 3.00am on Tuesday morning to find Fat Boy stuck in the shallow pool.
The 28 year-old was asleep in her bungalow when she heard strange noises.
"When I looked outside I saw this massive animal in the dark and I thought the Beast of Bodmin was in the pool," she said.
"I was terrified, but when I took a closer look I realised it was a horse."
Police and fire crews were tasked to the scene while Fat Boy tried to climb out of the water.
Unaware the animal was drunk, Ms Penhaligon then fed it more apples to keep it calm.
Ms Penhaligon said: "He looked a bit panicked - he was trying to get out of the pool but couldn't manage it and was getting very tired.
"I decided to sit down next to him and calm him down, so I fed him some apples to keep him occupied.
"The other horse just kept munching away from the tree and didn't seem to care about what was going on at all."
Police and fire crews arrived but were unable to help Fat Boy - who acquired his name due to a love of food and his big belly.
A specialist crew from Bodmin fire station were called in to deal with the incident, putting hay bales in the pool to make a step for the pony to climb out.
They finally got Fat Boy out of his watery misery at about 5am after giving him a helping hand out with harnesses

    10 ? Which guy's the 'retard' Madonna

    Thursday, October 16, 2008

The show must go on for Madonna

Madonna appeared to take a sly swipe at Guy Ritchie on stage last night after dedicating a song to 'emotional retards'.
The dig came hours after the singer revealed she was ending her seven-year marriage to the British film director.
The show went on for the queen of reinvention as she defiantly entertained her audience in Boston on the latest leg of her Sticky & Sweet tour

But as the world's media descended into a frenzy over her divorce statement, the Material Girl hinted at the possible reasons behind the split during her song Miles Away.

This song is for the emotionally retarded. You might know a few people who fall into that category – God knows I do

'This song is for the emotionally retarded. You might know a few people who fall into that category – God knows I do.'
Her outburst came as gossips try to link her split to the friendships she has with the other men in her life, New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez and the father of her 12-year-old daughter Lourdes, Carlos Leon.
Rodriguez - the married sports star she is accused of having an 'affair of the heart' with - reportedly crept in to watch her New York show on the weekend once the lights went down.
It is claimed the pair will make a public appearance together in Africa after Madge's tour finishes to promote her Raising Malawi charity.
Meanwhile Leon, who is said to be looking after the singer's Manhattan home, denies he knew anything about the break-up.
'I heard it when you heard it. That kind of the stuff like, (sic) 'Whoa!' I stay away from, even if she wasn't my friend' he said.
'It's none of my business really. So I stay away from it. All I know is I support Madonna and Guy and of course my daughter and all the children as best I can.'
Meanwhile, while friends say film director Guy doesn't want a penny of Madge's £150m fortune, others now say he's gearing up to get what he can.
'Guy wants to make himself out to be a gentleman who's above money,' says one of Madonna's friends.
'If only that was the case. The truth is he's looking for a nice piece of the pie.'
Meanwhile, it was claimed Madonna's London buddy Gwyneth Paltrow 'begged' her not to ditch Ritchie in the summer, reportedly telling her she was an 'idiot'

6 High wire man breaks longest cycle ride

    Thursday, October 16, 2008

Tight: Nik Wallenda cycles across a high wire hung more than 12 storeys above the US city of Newark

Your mobile's always going off at the wrong moment. But be thankful it's not happened 130ft above the ground.. while riding a bicycle... along a wire.
Circus performer Nik Wallenda, the seventh generation of a family famed for its high wire acts, has broken the record for the longest cycle ride on a wire – without a safety net.
Watched by hundreds of commuters, the 29-year-old pedalled 72m (236ft) on his tyreless bike along a cable more than 40m (130ft) above the US city of Newark

He even stopped to make a mobile phone call halfway and almost didn't make it when his wheel started slipping on support wires.
'They were like speed bumps,' said the daredevil, whose great-grandfather, Karl, plunged to his death attempting a similar feat.
Mr Wallenda planned the stunt to mark the return of the circus to Newark after a 52-year absence.
He walked along a cable hung between the city's Prudential Center and a crane before cycling back.
'I never expected to see something like this in Newark because just nothing ever came here,' said onlooker Makhan Taylor.
Newark mayor Cory Booker said he was grateful for the publicity but added: 'We're doing everything we can to lift the city and it would have been tragic if he had fallen

9 The tuxedo shirt that is bullet-proof

    Thursday, October 16, 2008

Get extra protection for your man this Christmas

Today's big shots rest assured – you can now dress up for dinner and still be safe from passing hitmen.
Take this tuxedo shirt for example. It features 'elegant design details' that can turn heads in a Monte Carlo casino but still protect you from an Uzi.
It is just one bulletproof item in a 'high security fashion' range that includes polo shirts and denim jackets and is now being sold at Harrods.
The combat couture was designed by Miguel Caballero, who came up with the idea 15 years ago during the constant unrest in his native Colombia

The self-styled 'Armani of bulletproof clothing' is now so confident in his work that he shoots his employees.
'What we offer is one more chance at life,' said marketing manager Javier Di Carlo. 'We don't want people to say to the criminal, “Shoot me.” Nobody should feel like Superman.
'But if the criminal does shoot, we give our customers a chance to run away.' Clothes cost from a few hundred pounds to about £7,000 and are stocked not by size but by level of protection.
The lowest guards you from a standard hand gun while the highest lets you brag about the time someone tried to take you out with an automatic rifle.
Perhaps someone should get in touch with Liverpool City Council – it plans to issue staff such as licensing enforcement officers with £450 bulletproof vests in case landlords get angry
