EASY MONEY METHODS
Method One: Buy a Seed Mixer and put in any of the fruit from tree crops. Sell the seeds instead of the fruit to make lots more money. For example, grapes sell for about 35 G each but the seeds are worth 450 G each.
Method Two: Around the middle of Chapters 1, 2 or 3 you can buy a Seed Maker. Get at least one tree seed from Vesta Farm and plant it in your fields. The most fertile place would be a good location. After the tree has grown, flowers, and makes fruit, take the grown fruit and put it in the Seed Maker. Leave it for three games days. When you return, the Seed Maker will have seeds. Sell the seeds to Van to get a large amount of money. You can also do this to other vegetables and fruits and not have to buy seeds from the farm, which will cut back on the seeds that you buy every season. The Seed Maker will give you two seeds for every vegetable or fruit you put in. For example, if you put one peach in the Seed Maker you will get two peach seeds. Note: You can put a total of twelve vegetables or fruit in the Seed Maker.
Method Three: This trick requires the Ruby Spice from Ruby. Go to your kitchen and choose any type of food (salad, soup, desserts) and use only one Ruby Spice. You will get another Ruby Spice. Repeat this process until you have 99 of them. Remember to keep one somewhere so you can keep doing this. Each Ruby Spice can be sold for 100 G.
Method Four: Sell your Fodder to Van when he comes to town for 10 G.
Method Five: Sell all of your Milk to Van and reject his first price. He should greatly increase his price. You can also do this with Golden Wool and Golden Eggs.
Method Six: If you make a mistake on a recipe and get a failed or unknown food, do not throw it away. Van will buy it for 5 G.
GENERAL HINTS, TRICKS AND PLAYING TIPS
Chinese checkers mini-game: If you enter Kassey's house when one of them is there you can sometimes play a mini game that is similar to Chinese checkers.
Tombstone washer mini-game: In Chapter 2, go to Nina's grave at 6:30 a.m. and talk to Garen. You can play the tombstone washer mini game.
Get a cat: Befriend Romona. Somewhere in Chapter 2 and up, Romona will come to your house and let you name and have it.
Get ducks: Go to Takakura and you buy a pond for 2,500 G some time during the Summer in Chapter 2. Then, wake up later than your wife in the morning.
Get a goat: Starting in the second year, you can buy a goat from Van. It will give milk once per day for a full season, then it will stop. You can sell the goat milk for 115 G or make goat cheese and butter. The goat cheese and butter sell for 155 G and 150 G. However, you cannot sell the goat.
Get a horse: During the first summer of The Beginning, somewhere around Summer 8 Takura will give you the horse. He says that you ordered it, then finds out that you did not order it.
Calling horse: Press R twice to calls you horse from anywhere outside to you.
Get a lizard: To get a lizard you must befriend Mukumuku. To do this, give the giant white monster a fish and watch as he jumps up and down.
Wake animals: To wake up your animals whenever you want, just push them from their head until they turn around. The animal should awaken after it turns.
Tartan: Walk into Takakura's house 5:00 to 10:00. You must be friends with him and he must be in there. Tartan is a talking plant.
Golden Wool or White Wool: Use the following trick to get Golden Wool and eggs more often. Love your sheep, chickens and ducks every day. Press Y when in front of the animal and the heart symbol appears in the top right corner. When it is time to sheer the sheep, give it some extra head rubs and wash it before you cut the wool off. It is possible to get Golden Wool every season from your sheep and at least one golden egg per season.
More tools: If you become good friends with Vesta (give her flowers everyday) then look for her in her storage room, she will eventually give you the weird hoe. Also, if you become good friends with Dr. Hardy (he likes coins from the dig site) and enter his house when he moves to town, he will give you the weird sickle. Give flowers to Gustafa everyday and when you can enter his house, if he is friends with you he will give you a strange sickle. Also become friends with Sabrina, Kate, and/or Grant (your friendship with one will eventually rub off onto the rest of the family). Grant will give you an alarm clock to help get you up in the morning. Kate and Sabrina both like flowers. Finally if you become friends with Romona, Subastian and Lumina, (Romona and Lumina like flowers and Subastian likes old coins, gold ones only and eggs), Romona will eventually give you a wooden watering can. You can use the tools or just collect them. They are a symbol of friendship with these people.
Free Seed Maker: Befriend Daryl (the scientist) and wait until you see his trap #2 for catching the monster. When it fails, go to his house. When you enter his house you will see an intermission sequence with him talking about the Seed Maker. He will give you one when he is done talking.
Level S seeds: This trick requires almost a year of patience, depending on where you are in the game. Wait until you have the Talking, Hybridizing plant Tartan. Once you have him, find the seed you want to be "super". It can be a hybrid or normal crop). Then, gather the vast quantities of the following flowers in the corresponding seasons: Happy Lamp (Summer), Gemsoil (Fall), and Upseed (Winter). Once you have all of them, go to Tartan with the "super" seed to be. One at a time, combine the seed with one of each flower. Once each flower is combined, stop hybridizing and press Start. Highlight the seed and press the "Help" button. The seed is now level S, can be grown in any soil, in any season, and thus a "super" seed.
Heartbreaker: If you are having a difficult time getting Nami to fall for you, consider taking the roundabout approach. Break Muffy and Celia's hearts by proposals to them. Show Muffy and Celia the Blue Feather. When they ask "Are you serious?" say "No." By the end of the first chapter, Nami's affection should be high enough that you can propose to her.
Strange Hoe: To get the Strange Hoe you must befriend Tim the hotel manger. He likes fruits.
Monster sighting: Go into your house before 9:00 p.m. Wait until 9:45 p.m. and walk out of your house. This should start an intermission sequence where you will see Daryl walking into the woods toward the spring to find the monster that has been seen lately. The monsters name will be Mukumuku. Note: You may have to be friends with Daryl for this to work.
Fishing: Do not go fishing with a empty stomach.
Planting: Use the following trick if you have a hard time planting with the watering can. Use the watering can with the faucet by the chicken coop. It will help you by spraying water instead of drops.
See Nina's ghost: After Nina's (Galen's wife's) death, Galen will be seen moping around town. If you see him by her tombstone, talk to him. He will ask if you want to polish her grave. Answer "Yes." After you are done, look carefully and you may be able to see the ghost of Nina.
Piano practice: If you walk into Romana's Vila around 10:30 a.m., you should start an intermission sequence that shows Lumina playing the piano and Romana telling her to "Play more freely" She will then stop and she will talk to you. You will then be given a choice of what to say to her. If you tell her "That's OK, have fun", she will tell you a story and you will be friends or become better friends with her.
Milk drinking contest: When you go into the Inner Inn and Rock and Tim are in the main room, go over to Rock. He will ask to have a milk drinking contest. Try going there on Spring the 9th at about 2:30.
Box from the beach: When you are married to Celia, sometime in the third chapter (about Spring the 3rd), at about 5 or 6 in the morning, go into your son's room. He will be lying on the floor by a box. Ask what the box is and he will say he found it on the beach. Say that it is cool and he will get all excited that you also liked it. He will then tell you that there is a secret code on the side. If you answer "It says Fragile," he will say "Wow! Cool! You know how to tell what codes are!? Your like a spy!". This may make him look up to you, or at least like you.
Quick rest: Select the "Diary" option and choose to go to sleep. Save the game when asked, then reset the Gamecube. Load that saved game file to resume just before the time you went to sleep, but fully rested.
Prevent offending girl: If you offend a girl whom you want to marry, it will take longer to get a heart. To prevent this, when you do one of the intermission sequences with the girl, she will talk to you and you will have to respond. There are two responses that you can choose from. One of them is good, and the other is a bad choice. If you choose a bad response, wait until the sequence is over and reset the Gamecube. You should wake up to the same day as the intermission sequence, and can do the same thing that you did before to get the sequence. This time, make a good choice for the response.
No food taken by Murrey: On Spring 1, Year 2 (your marriage date), Murrey will go around taking the food from houses (including yours). To keep your food safe, just take it in your sack. You will still have it in the oncoming year. Then, just put it back into the food storage (or wherever else).
Get a Heart from Muffy: To get a heart from Muffy, give her a flower. When she says "A gift for me?" You must answer from a set of responses. Choose, "If you want it" to get a Heart.
Whining baby: When you first get married and have a baby, he goes to bed at 9:00 p.m. Talk to him before 9:00 p.m. until he says "Carry me". Then, pick him up and do not put him down. At 9:00 p.m. your wife will tell your son to go to bed and he will start whining.
Change chicken gender: Note: This trick only works for a hatching chicken. Do not save the game until you get the gender of chicken that you want. After the chick hatches, reset or turn off the Gamecube. The chick might change to male or female. Note: This may require a few attempts.
Checking friends: You can tell if you are friends with a person when they look at you as you or they walk by.
Checking the weather: Usually the weather forecast on television is wrong, except for the man with a hat. It is easier to press Z and look at the sky. If it is cloudy, then move your animals inside. If not, move them outside.
Change weather: If it is raining or there is a hurricane, enter the mine and dig. After you are done, the rain or hurricane will be over. Or.. keep turning your television on and off while on the weather channel. Stop when the weather that you want appears.
Get to Year 2 faster: In the first year, when you get up in the morning, milk the cow (7 a.m. to 11 a.m.). At noon, go to the girl you want to impress. Give her a gift and return to your farm. At about 4 p.m., milk the cow if desired and go to sleep. Repeat this until Year 2 and give the Blue Feather when you see four hearts. Do not buy any chickens, sheep, or cattle until Year 2, as it is a waste of time.
Different responses: Try showing your Milker and Heavy Hoe to everyone in town. For example, show your Milker to Vesta (the woman who lives on the farm). Also try showing these items to the three girls that you can marry.
Wake up times: Wally's family: 6:00 a.m... Grant's family: 6:00 a.m... Blue Bar: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m... Takakura: 5:00 a.m... Celia (if wife): 6:00 a.m... Son: 6:00 a.m... Pyrotecnitions: 7:00 a.m... Gustafa: 9:00 a.m.
Harvest Moon Boy & Girl PSP Cookbook Recipe Guide by Freyashawk email: [ برای مشاهده لینک ، با نام کاربری خود وارد شوید یا ثبت نام کنید ] Created on 6 March 2008 Last updated on 12 March 2008 Note on 6 March: This Cookbook presently contains all Basic Recipes and most of the villager special recipes. As time permits, I will add more 'Best' Recipes. In order to complete your Cookbook, you need only make the Basic Dish successfully. 'Best' Recipes simply are worth more in terms of restoring energy levels.

Introduction: This is intended as a quick Reference Guide for Recipes and Cooking in Harvest Moon Boy & Girl PSP game, a new version of the old 'Back to Nature' game for the Playstation. There are some differences between the old and new games, naturally. In Harvest Moon Boy & Girl, as the title suggests, you can choose to play either a boy or a girl. In the original Japanese version, playing a boy is 'Destiny' and playing a girl is 'Fate'. If you play as a boy, your game will continue after marriage and you can have a child. If you play as a girl, the game will end when you marry. Remember that the PSP allows multiple save files, an unusual option for players accustomed to Harvest Moon games on handheld systems such as the Game Boy and DS systems. What this means in practical terms, is that you can have MANY different games founded on an original game. Playing as a girl, then, you could save a file BEFORE marriage to any bachelor and then proceed to marry bachelors without saving the results. Playing as a boy, you could court ALL eligible girls in an initial file, then branch off to save different 'lives' in different files. The PSP is a wonderful system in this respect and one particularly suited to Harvest Moon where there is no 'single' ending. I am working on a Comprehensive Guide for Harvest Moon Boy & Girl but I always feel that a separate Cookbook or Recipe Guide is useful to players.
Obtaining Recipes: Recipes in this game can be obtained through a number of different methods. You can use 'trial and error' to experiment. Every successful dish will be recorded in your Cookbook. Once a recipe is recorded, you can refer to it and when chosen in the menu, it will be made automatically. Failed dishes are called 'Food Fiasco'. You can eat them or give them as gifts, but it generally is unpopular with individuals! Other methods of obtaining recipes are by watching 'Delicious Hour', the cooking programme that airs on the television each Tuesday, or by speaking to various individuals. For example, when you have reached a level of friendship with Ellen and give her another gift one day, she will tell you how to make a Sandwich, and include some optional ingredients in the lesson. In fact, I have included a section in this guide for the recipes given by villagers.
The Difference between Basic and Best Recipes: Like the 'Basic', 'Better' and 'Best' Recipes in my Cooking Guides for FoMT/MFoMT and Harvest Moon DS, you can make a recipe using only the Basic ingredients, utensils and seasonings or you can make the 'Best' Recipe by adding Optional ingredients, utensils and seasonings. The 'Best' recipe will have a higher value in terms of restoring energy. In this game, most Cooked Dishes cannot be shipped and therefore have no monetary value whatsoever. The exceptions to the 'no shipping' rule are the various sizes of Mayonnaise, which you can make either in your Kitchen or by using the Mayonnaise Maker and a Spa-Cooked Egg, made only at the Spa.
The Spa-Boiled Egg The Spa-Boiled Egg is a rather humble item but one that carries significant value in terms of friendship and profit. The gift of a Spa-Boiled Egg can win the heart of more than one girl and is extremely popular with many villagers. My Courtship and Marriage Guide gives the likes and dislikes of all the eligible girls and bachelors and my Characters Guide does the same for all villagers. Nonetheless, here is a simple list of all individuals who either love or like a Spa-Boiled Egg: Eligible Girls/ Bachelors who love Spa Egg: Ann, Popuri, Cliff, Doctor, Rick Eligible Girls /Bachelors who like Spa Egg: Karen Villagers who Love Spa Egg: Basil, Barley, Duke, Harris Villagers who Like Spa Egg: Jeff, Carter, Thomas, Louis Do be careful, however, when giving this item to some one not on this list. There are two bachelors who actively dislike a Spa-Boiled Egg. These are Grey and Kai. Where Elli and Mary are concerned, they neither like nor dislike a Spa-Boiled Egg, so giving one to either of them is no more than the waste of a good egg! Where Ann is concerned, the Spa-Boiled Egg not only is a 'Most Favourite Item' but is one of the FIRST items that you can obtain in this game that she actually likes or loves as she is not a girl who responds positively to the gift of a flower, unlike the other girls. Where the bachelors are concerned, you can see that three out of 5 consider the Spa-Boiled Egg a 'Most Favourite Item', making it easy to win their hearts once you own a Chicken. Grey is easily pleased with any Ore and Kai can be won either with flowers or Flour, making it easy to win the heart of any bachelor in the game. The Spa-Boiled Egg is an easy and inexpensive way to win hearts. It is a way to make a good profit on your eggs when shipped as well. The Spa has the ability to transform any egg into a Spa-Boiled Egg and a Spa Egg ships for 80G. Any Egg, even a Golden Egg, ships only for 50G, so the act of tossing an Egg into the Spa increases the value of that Egg by 30G. I personally save my Golden Eggs for Mayonnaise but if you are desperate for cash, you can transform them into Spa Eggs instead. I would rather wait for the opportunity to transform them into Mayonnaise XL which ships for 300G.
Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise deserves a special mention as it is a way to transform an item that is worth only 50G when shipped into an item that can ship potentially for 300G. A Golden Egg is worth no more than any other sort of egg until it is made into Mayonnaise. Even before you have a Mayonnaise Maker, provided you have purchased all the Kitchen Utensils from the Shopping Network, including the Seasoning Set, you can make Mayonnaise in your kitchen and ship it. The recipe for Mayonnaise is as follows: Ingredients: Egg (any type) Oil Utensils: Whisk Seasonings: Vinegar The variety or size of Mayonnaise that is produced depends on the sort of egg used. A Normal Egg will produce Small Mayonnaise that ships for 100G. A Good Egg will produce Medium Mayonnaise that ships for 150G. An Excellent Egg will produce Large Mayonnaise that ships for 200G. A Golden Egg will produce Extra- Large Mayonnaise that ships for 300G. To be honest, you will find that little profit is made by making Mayonnaise in your kitchen with anything less than an Excellent or Golden Egg as the price of the Oil that is required as an ingredient in each case is 50G. You therefore make only 50G profit when you make Small Mayonnaise, only 100G profit for Medium Mayonnaise but you make 150G profit for Large Mayonnaise and 250G profit if you make Extra Large Mayonnaise using a Golden Egg. I always store ALL Golden Eggs in my Refrigerator from the start of the game after shipping only one to complete my Shipping List. I then make Mayonnaise from them as soon as I have the Whisk and Seasoning Set from the Shopping Network. Once I have the Mayonnaise Maker, I no longer make Mayonnaise in my kitchen but use all varieties of Egg to make Mayonnaise through the Maker, as Oil no longer is required when you use the Mayonnaise Maker. Incidentally, I do the same with respect to Milk and Wool. Cheese and Yarn have far higher values than the Milk and Wool used to produce them. After shipping one of each, I save all Milk in my Refrigerator and all Wool in my Shelf to be used only when I am able to acquire the Cheese Maker and the Yarn Maker.
Small Fish The Small Fish may merit a section of its own. In most cases, the size of an item does not limit its use in any recipe that includes it. To make Butter, you can use any size of Milk, although you are wasting the potential shipping value of the Milk if you use a larger size than Small. The one exception to this, however, is where Fish are concerned. Any Recipe that includes Fish can be made successfully with either a Medium or a Large Fish, but a Small fish ordinarily will cause a Food Fiasco to occur. There is only one Recipe where a Small Fish can be used and indeed creates the 'Best' Recipe in terms of energy values. This is the Recipe for Miso Soup. The Recipe is: Miso Soup Ingredients: Small Fish or any fish, any vegetable Utensils: Pot Seasonings: Miso Paste If you make Miso Soup with a vegetable, its energy value will be 'worse' than Miso Soup made with a Small Fish. This, therefore, is a good use of your Small Fish. There are two other ways to use the Small Fish. You can ship it, not so much for its shipping value but in order to reach a shipping total of 200 Fish to enable you to catch one of the King Fish. As the shipping value is low, however, you may wish to toss it into your Fish Pond where it will grow ultimately into a Large Fish. Although the Fish Pond is frozen in Winter, any Fish that you catch can be stored in your Refrigerator until Spring. You then can toss them into the Pond if you wish to increase their size. As previously stated, however, a small fish can be used to great effect in Miso Soup.
TV Shopping Channel and Kitchen Utensils:
As soon as your house has been expanded for the first time, TV Shopping will begin to air on Saturdays on the Channel accessed with the Left direction button. As in FoMT and MFoMT, once you have watched the TV Shopping programme on television, you will be able to use the telephone at the Inn by paying 10G. If you do not watch television, you will not be able to buy an item. If you cannot make it to the Inn on Saturday, you still should be able to use the telephone to make the order on Sunday. Items ordered by telephone take 3 days to arrive. If you order the item on Saturday, Zack will deliver the item on Tuesday morning at 6.00 a.m. The first item that will be available on the TV Shopping programme is the Knife. The Knife costs 3000G. The first recipes that you will be able to make, therefore, are those that require either no utensils at all or those that require use only of the Knife.
Easiest Recipes:
Here are the first recipes that you can make in this game. Raisin Bread, Mushroom Rice and Bamboo Rice require no utensils at all. Salad, Sandwich and Sashimi require nothing more than a knife. Raisin Bread: Ingredients: Bread, Wild Grapes Utensils: None Seasonings: None Bread can be purchased from the Supermarket for 100G. Wild Grapes are available in the wilds in Autumn. You can find two daily near the western shore of the Lake. Bamboo Rice: Ingredients: Bamboo Shoot, Rice Ball Utensils: None Seasonings: None Optional Seasonings: Salt, Soy Sauce I have included Bamboo Rice as technically it would be one of the first Recipes you could make, provided only that you saved a Bamboo Shoot from the Spring season. If you did not save any Bamboo Shoots and you did not expand your house before the end of Spring, you will not be able to make this Recipe in your first year. The Rice Ball can be purchased from the Supermarket for 100G. Mushroom Rice: Ingredients: Mushroom, Rice Ball Utensils: None Seasonings: None Optional Seasonings: Salt, Soy Sauce You should have no trouble making Mushroom Rice once you reach your first Autumn, as four Mushrooms can be found daily in the Wilds during the Autumn season. Rice Balls can be purchased from the Supermarket for 100G. Bread can be purchased from the Supermarket for 100G. Wild Grapes are available in the wilds in Autumn. You can find two daily near the western shore of the Lake. Salad Ingredients: Cucumber, Cabbage, Carrot and/or Tomato Utensils: Knife Seasonings: None Optional Seasonings: Vinegar, Salt Once you have purchased a Knife from the TV Shopping Channel, you will be able to make a Basic Salad. You can make a successful Salad using only one crop. Cucumber and Cabbage are Spring crops. Store them in your Refrigerator to use year-round until you have a Hothouse to grow them in any season. Tomato is a Summer crop and Carrots are an Autumn crop. Again, try to store all crops in your Refrigerator until you can order the Hothouse from Gotz. Sandwich Ingredients: Bread, Cucumber or Tomato Utensils: Knife Seasonings: None A Sandwich can be made once you have purchased the Knife from the TV Shopping Channel. Buy Bread at the Supermarket for 100G. Cucumber is a Spring Crop. Store it in your Refrigerator for use year-round. Tomato is a Summer Crop. Again, it can be stored in your Refrigerator year-round until you have a Hothouse and can grow crops in every season. Sashimi: Ingredients: Medium Fish or Large Fish Utensils: Knife Seasonings: None Sashimi is a wonderful Recipe, requiring only a Knife and a Medium or Large Fish. Unfortunately, fishing is more a matter of catching rubbish than fish in this game until you have the best Fishing Rod, a gift from Greg once you have caught 50 Fish. Until then, you will be forced to be extremely determined if you wish to catch fish in sufficient quantities to allow you to make Sashimi regularly. Remember that a small fish placed in the Fish Pond will grow larger, provided always that you feed it Fish Food daily. Please note that Seasonings in this game are one of the last items for the Kitchen that are offered by the Shopping Network. In a section that follows, I have provided a complete list of all recipes that can be made in this game. 'No Utensil' Recipes are listed in a single section. Those that require any Seasonings, however, will not be able to be made successfully until you have purchased the Seasoning Set from the TV Shopping Channel. As the Knife is one of the Utensils ordered from the Shopping Network, Knife Recipes are listed as a separate category. As all Kitchen Utensils must be purchased from the TV Shopping Network, I am including a section that gives the order in which Utensils are offered as well as their prices.
Individuals who Love Easy Dishes:
This section may be useful to players who cannot wait to cook and who wish to be able to give their Cooked Dishes to people who appreciate them. I have made lists of the eligible girls, bachelors and villagers who like the Cooked Dishes that can be made when you first begin to cook. I added Bamboo Shoots, Apples and Spa Eggs simply because they are plentiful and popular. TV Shopping Schedule and Prices:
The TV Shopping Channel will not air until you have expanded your house. In this game, a Refrigerator, Cabinet/Shelf and Kitchen automatically are included with your first house expansion. As soon as your first house expansion is completed, the TV Shopping Channel will begin to air on Saturday. It is the Channel on the television that is accessed by means of the Left Direction button or control. Watch the programme and then walk to the Inn to use the telephone there for 10G. Here is the order in which the items are offered as well as their prices. Only one item will be ordered each week and only on Saturday. If you do not watch the programme on Saturday, you will not be able to use the telephone to order anything. Knife: 3000G Frying Pan: 2500G Pot: 2000G Mixer: 2500G Whisk: 1000G Rolling Pin: 1500G Oven: 5000G Seasonings Set: 5000G Power Berry: 5000G As you can see, the last item that is offered is a Red Power Berry. Even if you have little interest in cooking for whatever reason, you need to purchase all the Kitchen Utensils in order to be able to buy the Power Berry. Completing your Cookbook, however, is one of the subsidiary goals in this game and cooked items usually restore more energy than raw crops. Furthermore, cooked items make great gifts... provided always that you know which individuals love them!
Special Recipes from Villagers:
In order to trigger the dialogue for a special recipe from any individual, you must give him or her a gift of an item he/she likes. As soon as the individual receives the gift, the Recipe will be given to you. Villager recipes include many of the optional ingredients that make them the 'Best' version. Ellen's Sandwich Recipe: I gave Ellen a Blue Magic Flower and she said: Thank you, Freyr. Oh, wait a minute. Let me teach you how to make sandwiches. Are you listening? OK, first you slice the bread with a knife and spread it with butter. Then you place things like cucumbers and tomatoes between the slices. Boiled eggs taste good, too. You can use just about anything. Elli tries all sorts of things on sandwiches for Tim. Basil's Fruit Latte Recipe: I gave Basil a Blue Magic Flower and he said: Do you grow any fruits on your farm? I'll tell you how to make a fruit latte, so listen up. You can use either pineapple, apples or grapes. Put them in the mixer with milk. You can also use strawberries, grape juice, honey or sugar. Doug's Cheese Fondue Recipe I gave Doug a box of flour and he said: Doug: Oh, I know what I can do in return... I'll tell you how to make Cheese Fondue. Do you know what that is? Well, memorise what I have to say. You need cheese and something like bread, which you cut into bite size pieces with a knife. For cooking, all you need is a pot. Easy, huh? And you can add salt or wine for flavour. You should try it sometime. I gave the Doctor a Mushroom and he said: Doctor's Super Mixed Juice: Doctor: Thank you. In return, I'll teach you how to make mixed juice. It's a good way to eat vegetables and fruits. Hmmm, I have nothing to write it on. Well, you'll have to memorise it. What you need are strawberries, pineapple, grapes, carrots, cucumbers, cabbage and apples. Make sure to use them all or it won't turn out right. You need a mixer. And you can use a knife to chop things up if you want. It may be easier to drink if you add sugar and salt. You can also try adding other vegetables and fruits. Being a farmer. I'm sure you can get all the ingredients, right? Harris' Fried Rice: I gave Harris a Blue Magic Flower in the Inn and he said: Harris: You're probably too busy to cook, so let me teach you an easy dish. You like Fried Rice? Well, to make it, you heat some oil in a pan and then add eggs and rice balls. You can add other things, too, but you should use a knife to chop them up first. And it'll taste better if you can add sugar, salt and soy sauce. I gave Saibara a piece of Copper Ore and he said: Simple food is the best. Let me tell you how to make pickled turnips. It's best to remember so you can make them if you ever feel the urge. All you need are turnips and vinegar. After that you just cut them with a knife, so it's a simple dish. Young lads like yourself would probably also like to season them with sugar, salt and soy sauce. I gave Lillia a Blue Magic Flower and she said: I know... I'll teach you how to cook Scrambled Eggs. It's very easy, so you should try it. Just heat oil in a frying pan, then add in the eggs and mix them around. That's the basic recipe, but you can whisk the eggs in a bowl with salt and soy sauce and sugar first. And you can add butter or mayonnaise. Kids like that, though it may sound weird. Eggs give you energy, so we eat them three times a day. Maybe that's why my children are so boisterous. I gave Zack a Blue Magic Flower and he said, with great enthusiasm: Oh, yes! Let me teach you how to make delicious Fried Noodles. The one thing you absolutely need is noodles! Just put some oil in a frying pan and cook them up. That's why they're called Fried Noodles. It'll taste better if you add eggs and vegetables. Manna's Spinach Recipe: I gave Manna an apple for her birthday and she said: Manna: Do you cook, Frey? Well then, let me teach you how to make 'Ohitashi' greens. Make sure you remember this. Write it down if you have a piece of paper so you don't forget. Me write it down? No, I like talking, so let me give you a verbal explanation. Are you ready? What you do is boil spinach in a pot, and then season it with soy sauce. It's easy? You say you can remember without writing it down? Oh, I didn't mean to imply you're dim or anything. Actually, I surprised myself at how quickly I finished talking. I gave Carter a Sweet Potato on his birthday and he said: Carter: I'm going to teach you the recipe for an afternoon snack I make for the kids. It's easy to make so file it away in your head. What you need are strawberries and milk. Just blend them in the Mixer and you're done. Sometimes I add honey, sugar and salt too. Gotz' Veggie Pancake Recipe: I gave Gotz a Sweet Potato to get his recipe: Gotz: Have you ever eaten a Veggie Pancake? It's good and easy to make because you just mix the ingredients and grill them up. I'll tell you how to make them if you like. Let's see... you need flour and an egg and some cabbage. Mix it up and pour it into an oiled frying pan. Oh yes, you have to chop the cabbage with a knife first. And you can add any other ingredients you like. Barley's Ice Cream I gave Barley a Blue Magic Flower and he said: Barley: Let me teach you how to make ice cream. May got me making it. Listen up good now OK? You need milk, eggs and sugar. And a whisk and a pot. May likes it when I decorate it with cut strawberries, pineapple and apples or dribble on some honey. I think grapes work too. It tastes pretty good. You should try it. Chef's Sweet Potatoes Recipe I gave Chef some flour and he said: Chef: Let me teach you how to bake Sweet Potatoes, budum. Even Doug at the Inn can't make this dish. It's the most popular treat at the tea party, budum. You need sweet potatoes, eggs, butter, and sugar. After mixing everything in a pot you bake it in the oven. That's it, budum! But be careful about one thing. Don't add anything else to the recipe. If you can remember, give it a try when you get home, budum. N.B. I still need Kai's Popcorn Recipe.
The Mechanics of Cooking:
Perhaps it would be useful to give a brief set of instructions on how to cook in this game. First of all, go to the Kitchen and press 'X' at the Counter, when you are facing the wall on the right. You will see a prompt: Preparing to Cook. Please wait. You now will be given two options: Cook dish. Do not cook. Choosing 'Cook dish' will take you to a new menu: A new menu will appear: Follow a recipe Try cooking something new Do not cook If you are cooking a dish that you successfully completed previously, choose 'Follow a Recipe' to prepare it automatically. If it is a new dish, choose the second option to 'Try cooking something new'. A new page will option. There will be two separate sections: Use Utensils In the Utensil section, all Kitchen Utensils that you have purchased from the TV Shopping Network will be displayed. To use one or more of these, use the Directional Pad to move them from the Utensils slots to the 'Use' slots. Many recipes require more than one Utensil. Make certain that all required Utensils are moved to the 'Use' section. The Controls are: D button: Move Cursor (This is the Directional Pad) X Button: Select Tool O Button: Cancel/Close START: Ingredients Selection The next step, when all necessary Utensils are displayed in the top 'Use' Section is to press 'START'. Pressing START here does not start the cooking process but only takes you to your Rucksack and Refrigerator pages, to allow you to choose Ingredients. Again, you will be taken to a menu with two sections. The Top Section is for any Ingredients that you choose. The lower section will display the contents of your Rucksack and your Refrigerator. Use the Directional Pad to choose an Ingredient by highlighting it. It then will appear in the top section of the page under Ingredients. If you wish to change any Ingredient, simply press X again when the Cursor is on it and it no longer will be highlighted. You now will have two options, shown at the bottom of the screen: Try cooking with this Redo If you think that you have made the correct choices, opt for the first. The screen will darken and you will hear the characteristic chopping sound of Harvest Moon cooking, followed by a little 'ding' to signify that the dish is completed. If your dish has been successful, you will see a message: You've cooked a new dish! Write up a recipe! In fact, the game will 'write' the recipe for you, recording it in your 'Cookbook'. The next time you wish to prepare it, you simply need to choose: Follow a recipe When you choose the option to 'Follow a Recipe', you will be taken to your Cookbook. Here you will see a list of all the dishes you have completed successfully in the past. Highlight any of them to prepare them. When you highlight a recipe in your cookbook, you will see a new menu: There will be two sections again. The top section this time will be for Utensils and the lower section will be for Ingredients. The items used to prepare the Recipe in the past will be displayed in these sections. Below them, there will be a list of options: Make it Try a slight variation Return to dish list Do not cook These basically are self-explanatory. If you wish to change the recipe a little, choose 'Try a slight variation' and you will be given the option to add or subtract Utensils first, then Ingredients. Very often, you can improve a Basic Recipe by adding Seasonings or more food ingredients. There are Basic Recipes that must be followed very rigidly, however. This guide will endeavour to let you know when this is the case. For example, in FoMT/MFoMT and HM DS/Cute DS, Butter can be improved by the addition of Salt. In this game, however, the addition of Salt to the Basic Recipe will cause a Food Fiasco. I therefore made this clear by stating 'None' after Optional Seasonings.
Using the Seasoning Set When you have the Seasoning Set, the mechanics of cooking will become slightly more complex. The Seasonings Set is considered one of the Utensils and therefore will appear in the lower Utensils section when you are at the point of selecting the Utensils you will use. Select any other Utensils needed first by highlighting them, then select the Seasoning Set. A new sub-menu will open: Sugar Salt Vinegar Soy Sauce Miso Paste Unfortunately, you will not be able to highlight any of these choices. The first Seasoning that you choose will place the icon of the entire Seasoning Set in the upper section where all Utensil selections are placed. In order to know which Seasonings you have chosen, you must rely on sound alone. When a Seasoning has been selected, the game will make the 'positive' sound; when it has been cancelled, it will make the 'negative' sound. If you are confused, simply cancel the entire Seasoning Set and start again. Once you have completed the selection of all Seasonings, press the Start button as always to move forward to the Ingredients menu. Remember that the wrong seasoning can result in a Food Fiasco. If you add Sugar to Veggie Juice instead of Salt, for example, you will have a Food Fiasco on your hands.
Complete Basic Cookbook:
Here is a Complete Cookbook containing all Basic Recipes as well as including a few Optional Ingredients, Utensils and Seasonings. I have tried to list them in the order in which the necessary Utensils can be obtained from the TV Shopping Channel. Please take note of the difference between the listing of Seasonings and Optional Seasonings. If a seasoning is listed as Optional, you do not need it to complete the Recipe successfully. If it is listed simply as Seasonings, you MUST use it in order to make the Cooked Dish. I had to decide whether or not to list all Recipes that REQUIRE Seasonings in a separate category, but in the end, I have listed them only according to the Utensils required.
