در حالی که php در اصل توسط راسموس لردورف در سال 1995ساخته شد اما پیاده سازی و اجرای عملی php حالا توسط گروه php ایجاد شده و برای php که هیچ معیار و مشخصه رسمی وجود ندارد ,استاندارد de facto را ارائه کرده است.
