We normally buy presents for our friends and family and we give them to each other (or place it under the Christmas tree) on Christmas day (25th December in Britain). Also we have normally have a special Christmas lunch with a whole turkey as the traditional dish!

if you research more you will know that christmas is the birth day of mehr .i

By the way I heard that Christmas is derived from Iranian costumes. The celebration for mehr and Yalda night is on the same dates. Any body has any info???l

dear azadeh and behroos, you are right. christmas is derived from one of the iranian old religius tradition that is named Mithraism. i
yalda is most important celebration of mithraism. mehr is born at yalda's night.i
but how is christams originated? what is relation of christmas and yalda?i

Normally not. But Christmas for many isn't a religious event any more. People of all religions (or no religion) enjoy it as a national holiday..

after conquering of persia by Roman imperial in first century of B.C. Mithraism was sent to roma by iranian's captives and gradually was Known there and outspread in first century of A.D. i

meanwhile; this tradition was sent to colonies's zones of Roman imperial such as Germany, England , Austria by Roman legions and many Mehrabes were built in those countries.i
first Roman emperor ( Constans I ) that is known as father of Church and he built capital of eastern roma and named it with his name (Constantia). anyway; he conquered roma and italy in the yaer 312; then because of his belief to christ religion he determined liberty & equality of religions. then for restraining domination & pervasion of Mithra's tradition and yalda's night celebration in roman imperial ; he commanded that romans must celebrate yalda as chrest birthday. but; dogmatic christians didn,t accept this object because they belived that yalda celebration was one of the paynims and pagans's traditions.-still; some groups of this christians such as orthodoxyies and Armenians don't celebrate 25th december.- meanwhile; religious weekday was changed from Saturday ( that it was reminiscent of Jewish religion) to Sunday. thus; they cut last remained link of christianity and judaism.i
