Phonebook. Up to 500 contacts are stored in the phone's memory (depending on the number ofused fields). Each contact allows name (up to 31 characters), surname (up to 16 characters), up to three phone numbers and two fax numbers. Besides, two e-mail addresses, home page URL, company name, country, city, area code, address and birth date (which can be instantly transferred to reminders) can be specified. Also you can set your contact to one of the groups, assign a picture or a tag for voice dialing. Search by the first letter is possible in the phonebook

Messages. Up to 100 messages can be stored in the phone's memory. EMS standard is supported, and even preset animations and pictures are provided. Preset templates are there and you can also create own ones. Concatenated messages up to 760 characters in length are possible. A group message is at your disposal

Call lists. Call log of missed, received and dialed calls (10 in each). Calls from (to) the same numbers are combined. Call counter is also here. Duration of the last call, all incoming or all outgoing calls is for you to view. But total time is not provided, count it yourself

Melodies. All the sound settings are here. Vibrating alert can work with a melody at the same time. Assign a melody to a group and adjust alerts from here. A phone record can be set as a call melody, the max duration is 25 seconds

Extras. A plain calculator, a currency converter, a stopwatch and a timer are here

Own files. Folders with melodies, pictures and colour schemes are here. Received from other devices files are stored here as well

Settings. Profiles. Fully configured by a user five profiles are here. There are two fields for creating profiles by yourself and an "on board" mode, which turns off the phone

Internet and games. Here is WAP browser version 1.2.1. Java applications are supported; they are installed in the general memory. Uploading them is possible via WAP, IrDA and USB cable

Organizer. Only one alarm clock is present

Phonebook. Up to 800 numbers (yes, really, numbers not names) can be saved in the phone book. Nevertheless such information as Name (up to 30 characters), mobile phone, home, office numbers and fax may be saved for a name. Separately, you set a user group, select an image or video (may be done at once), call melody, e-mail address and a short text note. The number of characters possible to enter more is not shown at the text entrance

Messages. The device not only supports SMS and MMS, but can work with e-mail. Preset pictures, melodies and text templates can be added to usual messages. You can easily change the input language, T9 is supported. Up to 100 SMS and 30 MMS can be saved in the phone. The last ones have a usual interface while entering, a disadvantage is you can't attach a more than VGA photo to a message, that is a strict software constraint. You can't attach video like while saving a number. So, the MMS realization looks rather weak, now the company is not good at it

Call lists. Up to 20 entries in each list, everything is rather customary. There is a combines list of 30 numbers. Equal numbers are not summed up, but are shown one after another. If you keep a corresponding image for a caller, then an icon is shown in the list. You can see information about a call duration, call counters and GPRS-traffic

Media gallery. The device provides 8.4 MB of internal memory, which is not enough, even at the support for MMC-cards today. From here you can view the phone and the card contents. The division is according to the folders and n the memory card all the folders are displayed. The media gallery acts as a plain file manager; from here you can send files to other devices via IrDA or Bluetooth

Multimedia. The most interesting applications are gathered here, it includes a camera (read about it below), an mp3 player, radio and games

MP3 player allows playing files with various bit rates, but they are to be placed in certain folders both on the card and in the internal memory. Search in all the folders is not provided, and you should remember it while copying data. Playlists allow grouping files as you wish. There are preinstalled equalizers for various styles of music and a set of skins for the very player. The player quality is medium, no speed rewind, only jumping to the next composition

Radio. An integrated FM-radio works only with a headset attached. You can keep up to 20 stations with names for them. The quality is lower than average, while the radio is on, the device starts slowing down. That is especially seen at the first frequency change. The radio can't be minimized and work in the background, like the mp3 player. When closing the clamshell you don't close these applications. However the absence of the background mode is a serious constraint on the device: you can't use its functionality fully, for instance, write an SMS, look up a name in the phone book. You'll have to close the current application

There only one game called "Run" in the "Games" sector. That is a plain but well-drawn arcade. The second game is hidden in the "Java" sector, and it is called "AquaPangPang". Here you have to control a submarine, collect objects and avoid obstacles. Both games are mainly for young people

Organizer. Alarm clock may be set for once, everyday and every (Monday-Friday, Monday-Saturday)

Connectivity. Wap-browser version 2.0 is here. Nothing special may be said about it

Settings. From this variety of settings we should stress a possibility to choose a version of a sound equalizer, and despite the previous models, not a picture on the screen will be changed but a light indicator near the flash. Various wall-papers may be set for the display, they include digital or analog clock, a calendar or a greeting

Camera. The model is the first 2MP cameraphone by the company, but that doesn't mean the module is realized correctly in the device. For instance, only MJPEG video can be recorded, that means very few frames per a second and the fact menu multimedia players won't understand the clips (however the program in the kit plays these clips). Such clips were popular in the first products supporting video recording, and they belong to the first generation of cameraphones. Now they are hard to find, and the entire first five manufacturers refused such phones.

Sound is not recorded with video; the image on the screen is twitched and stands no criticism. Brightness and zoom are available from extra settings. Up to 8 various effects may be applied to the picture. The flash (precisely a light diode) is activated from the menu, and not automatically

Phonebook. Up to 250 names with completely filled fields can be saved in the phone's memory. The process of entering a new name is changed - you see a horizontal list of all the items and can enter it one after another. And separate fields for Name and Surname are absent; only a general field is available. That can cause troubles synchronizing with PC or other device. The length of the name field is 40 characters, which is both enough for a name and a surname

Messages. There is a support for EMS that allows attaching melodies, pictures to messages, formatting text and sending concatenated messages. The phone supports predictive text input T9 (a possibility to add your words to the dictionary). There are several dictionaries for different languages and up to 6 editable templates

Call lists. Here one may view standard lists of outgoing, incoming and missed calls. Each one contains 10 numbers, for some entries date and time of the call are specified. Similar numbers are summed up but not displayed in order

Profiles. All the sounds may be adjusted from here, from a call signal to a key press sound and alert type. Everything is traditional

Settings. Phone settings excluding the screen ones are adjusted from this menu. You can set GPRS, select a menu language and adjust redirection

Organizer. It is possible to save up to 20 events in the organizer and a date and time for the alert are set. You also may set it recurrent (every day, week, month, year). Calendar displays the whole month, the dates with set events are distinguished with another colour and a sign indicating the type of the event (meeting or a memo) appears in the bottom. The main minus of the organizer is a limited number of entries

Tools. Here is a standard calculator, a unit converter, world time function. Bluetooth settings are also here. Besides headset profiles the device supports ftp, which allows requesting the phones' memory directly. Bluetooth work doesn't rouse cavils; however the headset mode provides an unreliable connection sometimes. The connection may break for no reason

Screen. Wall-papers for both internal and external screens are to choose from here, as well as one of the four interface themes. You can set work time for backlighting for each of the screens - 10, 30 and 60 seconds

Games. The device supports Java MIDP 2.0, only one game is preinstalled - MR.Crane. This is a combination of Tetris and a logic game

My Stuff. Uploaded images, melodies, videos and programs are stored in separate folders. External memory is viewed separately. This is a plain file manager, which allows copying one file to another memory type in a unit of time (several files can't be transferred at once)

Service. The device supports GPRS (class 10) and EDGE of the same class, that's why I'd advise to adjust WAP-browser using batch communication, which would be cheaper. The thing to add to our description is wap-browser is of version 2.0. The absence of history in the browser really disappointed - so, you'll have to reenter the address you've already attended. Uploading new melodies and pictures makes no troubles, and the same for applications.

Multimedia. Various functions are mixed here, for instance, the camera is neighboring with the dictaphone records and karaoke. Karaoke function copies the other company models - that is a program that plays music and scrolls the text. No marks are given, so, it's of low interest

MP3 player. Tracklists are supported, but an evident disadvantage is you have to add tracks to certain folders in the phone memory or a card. If you've put the melodies in a root folder of the memory card, the device won't see them and add to a tracklist. That is serious for those who plan to use the device as a musical player. Own samples can be added to the tracklist by putting a tick in the general list. And the list is only one, you can't add personal tracklists

Phonebook. Pressing the buttons in the standby mode calls a search menu, here you can search by unlimited number of letters. Traditionally provided fast switch to a name by the position in the phone book

Messages. The default memory capacity for 100 SMS is provided; it may also vary depending on the software version. As a rule, operator versions are limited by 40 messages. The device works with EMS. Automatic cleaning of the whole message list should be mentioned as an extra possibility; there is a list of templates. Delivery report may be on permanently or switched on/off for a message

WAP. The phone has WAP-browser v2.0 and its possibilities are standard so nothing special can be said. GPRS (class 10) is present, the settings are rather simple, just follow your operator's instructions

Call log. The phone has a list of received calls; it includes the missed ones as well, they may be distinguished by the absent tip. You can also see the list of the 10 last dialed numbers; you can access it by pressing the Call button. Everything is rather simple and traditional, nothing special at all. Each entry features the date and time as well as the duration

Office applications. This menu features a whole bunch of office applications such as the Calculator. It's convenient, the full digital keyboard is present on the screen, it reproduces the real keyboard perfectly. The menu features memory options and the currency converter

Games and applications. The phone supports Java MIDP 2.0, all applications that are located in this menu item are based on this technology. The number of games and their title depends on where the phone was bought. The most often to find is Rebels (space arcade).

Safe is an utility for storing data about credit cards, access passwords and so on. Similar applications are integrated into Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Siemens.

Multimedia Album is a new application like for editing various files, you can combine sound, video and pictures in it. The idea resembles VideoDJ in Sony Ericsson's phones

Multimedia. The phone supports themes. It's a set of wallpapers, color schemes for the menu, sounds and ring tone types. You can change the outlook of your phone almost instantly and this is really fun. New themes can be downloaded from Motorola's website.

The themes haven't changed; there are three of them - a standard, Techno, Neon. They not only change a colour menu representation but interface windows, the whole interface of the phone changes.

MotoMixer - original sound file editor that allows mixing the tracks. You can play with it from time to time; the results may come out rather unexpected and nice. However as the practice shows, these sound editors are nothing more than a toy for most of the users, only few of them take use tool seriously.

Sounds - information about all sound files located in the phone's memory is stored here. You can check out their size, info and even listen to them. The players is similar to other Motorola's phones, everything is clear and easy to understand

Pictures - list of all images located in the phone's memory. There's a special icon near the file name. Each picture can be set as the wallpaper or screensaver. Pictures can be sorted in categories; this will make the browsing easier. A special editor is present as well, it allows putting frames, changing color scheme and using special effects. The most convenient part is that after mocking the picture it can be stored with a new name. This means that both the original and the new picture will be available for use. This may come handy in case if you want to edit the photo, and not to ruin the original

Settings. Here you can setup all Display settings including the color schemes

Camera (only L6). The device is equipped with a VGA-camera, which is a typical solution well known by all the triplets, no flash as well as any peculiarities. The camera is quite enough to take photos of people and use the photos in the phone book.

The camera allows not only taking photos but also recording video (3GP). The record may be called from the multimedia menu and then video. The duration of a record may be limited for a MMS or maximum (about 30 seconds). Two resolutions are supported 128x96 pixels and 176x144 pixels. Voice recording may be turned off. The quality of the video is average and the artifacts are seen on the screen. That was hard to expect the device will show any eminent features in recording video and it is typical and doesn't differ from other models. The time that saving the video takes almost equals that necessary for recording and that is a disadvantage

Synchronization with PC. A complete version of Mobile Phone Tools version 3 is included into the package. The program possibilities cover the needs of the majority of users; they include synchronization with MS Outlook, making reserve copies on the PC, copying photos, melodies, writing messages on the PC

Phonebook. Up to 255 numbers may be stored in the phone's memory. Only one phone number may be assigned to a contact. Search by a number of a group is at your disposal. There are 6 groups completely adjusted by a user, personal name, call melody and SMS alert are possible for each group. Contacts may be shown altogether (both from the internal memory and SIM) or separately

Messages. The phone offers no EMS support, and all the SMS are stored on a SIM. Positive points are group SMS and a capability to send a text message to e-mail address (if the function is provided by your operator), besides, you can change all the 8 templates as you like

Melodies. Here you can select a call type. That can be only a melody, only vibra, vibra with a melody at the same time, vibra then a melody, or vibra - melody and a silent mode. Also here you can set call signal volume (5 levels), set an incoming call melody, SMS signal and other sounds

Screen. Here you can turn an inverse effect on, then the text will be light and the background will be dark. To tell the truth, this mode looks unusual, but some people may like it. Besides, one of the two headbands that will be shown at turning on and off the phone can be selected. Also you can adjust screen contrast

Settings. Date and time is set from here, also choose a menu language, set the time for automatic phone on and off. And here is a T9 dictionary, where you can add words
