Miley Cyrus is set to turn this year's American Music Awards into a birthday bash by signing up to perform at the prizegiving.

The pop sensation turns 16 on the same day as the AMAs and many expected her to spend the day with family and friends - but she's keen to work.

She'll join Mariah Carey, Coldplay, Kanye West, Jonas Brothers, Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Taylor Swift, who are also performing at the the 36th annual AMAs. Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, is among the night's presenters.

She says, "I am so excited to be able to perform live for my fans at the American Music Awards and celebrate my Sweet 16 too."

The event will cap a big week for the teenager, who will lead the 82nd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on 27 November. l

Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan has decided to buy a house in Los Angeles - because she is sick of living in hotels.

The Mean Girls star has been staying at the city's exclusive Chateau Marmont for nearly two years.

But she is determined to finally sort her finances out and buy herself a property.

Lohan tells Harper's Bazaar magazine, "I still need to be in charge of taking care of myself and getting my s**t in line and buying a house.

"I was living (at the Chateau) for almost two years. Who blows that much money on a hotel? I could have bought a house!" l

Filming on Javier Bardem's new movie Biutiful was halted after police detained one of the extras on suspicion of illegal trading.

The unnamed actor was filming a scene as a street seller in Barcelona, Spain when a local cop seized his goods and began questioning him, unaware that the area was being used as a film set.

After realising their mistake, the officer released the extra and allowed Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez to continue work.

Following the incident, a police spokesperson claimed the force was not informed the film crew was shooting in the area. l

Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan is adamant her relatives approve of her l*esbian relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson - despite her father recently criticising the union.

The Mean Girls star has been romantically linked to the British star since they were spotted kissing and cuddling at a party in Cannes, France earlier this year.

And the 22-year-old was furious when her father, Michael, publicly denounced her affair with Ronson - sparking a bitter war of words with his daughter.

But Lohan admits that despite her father Michael's objections, her mother, Dina, and sister, Ali, are pleased for her.

She tells Harper's Bazaar magazine, "It's never really come up as an issue. We're close; we've been through a lot. They're supportive of me whether I'm with a guy or a girl. They're just supportive of me as a person.

"Ali's known Samantha for a really long time. And she's like, 'Whatever it is, I support you. I probably won't ever do what it is you're doing, but I'm happy for you.' Ali's very m*ature. Box office hits Wall-E and Kung Fu Panda are already early frontrunners for next year's Academy Award nominations.

Both films have been shortlisted for the best animated feature Oscar, in a category that will see 14 pictures battle it out for three final slots to compete for the coveted award.

Other films shortlisted in the category include Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Dr Seuss' Horton Hears A Who!, Bolt, Igor, Fly Me to the Moon and animated documentary Waltz with Bashir.

This year's awards saw the honour go to Pixar's Ratatouille.

The award will be announced at the annual ceremony in Hollywood on 22 February. l

Beyonce Knowles is convinced she took a huge risk by playing the lead role in new film Cadillac Records.

The Crazy In Love hitmaker stars as iconic singer Etta James in the movie, which documents the history of one of America's most famous record labels.

And Knowles feared she would ruin her 'good girl' image by playing James, who battled numerous drug addictions throughout her life.

But the singer is delighted with the end result, insisting the role has actually had a positive effect on her.

She tells Billboard magazine: "I realised that Etta James was so unapologetic, bold and strong that playing her was a big risk for me. It gave me the confidence and the push to challenge myself a little more with my music" l

Four-year-old Coco is showing all the signs of wanting to go into showbiz, much to Cox's disapproval.

But the youngster is unlikely to follow her mother into comedy acting - because she doesn't like being laughed at.

Cox says, "Coco will probably follow in our footsteps, unfortunately. She has a really strong personality. She's a funny, quirky kid. But she doesn't like people laughing at her so it should be drama."l

Big Daddy star Adam Sandler has become a father for the second time - his wife has given birth to a baby girl.

The actor and wife Jackie welcomed Sunny Madeline into the world earlier this month - and the funnyman is over the moon at the latest addition to his family.

A statement on Sandler's website says, "Jackie and Adam had a beautiful baby girl, Sunny Madeline, on November 2. Everyone is happy and healthy."

The couple, who wed in 2003, already have a daughter, two-year-old Sadie.l

John Travolta has dubbed teen sensation Miley Cyrus the new Olivia Newton-John after teaming up with the 15-year-old in new movie Bolt.

The two actor/singers also teamed up in the recording studio to perform the theme for the new animated movie, and Travolta admits he hasn't seen a star sparkle like Cyrus since he fell for Newton-John during their late 1970s movie musical Grease.

He says, "The whole country is in love with her (Cyrus), as am I. She's got the equivalent of what Olivia Newton-John was to Grease." l
