Perl 6 Essentials, which is intended to be reissued several times during Perl 6 development, aims to keep working Perl users informed of architectural decisions, feature additions, syntactic changes, and community developments as they occur. The idea is that if you keep up with the Perl 6 Essentials series, you'll be ready to go when the final release appears--if you're not inspired to join the development effort first. A jaded software developer, having seen too many insubstantial "advance" books rushed to press just so they can be the only books available on their topic for a while, might be suspicious of this book. Such suspicion is not borne out by the contents of Perl 6 Essentials, which are valuable. Though thin, this book is dense with information and well worth its modest cover price. The authors clearly explain what's new (so far) in Perl 6, and do an excellent job of explaining the new Parrot virtual machine architecture. There's extensive coverage of Parrot assembly language (PASM), more than enough for you to do some significant exploratory programming with it. The authors have a good sense of what Perl developers want to know about their future working environment, and satisfy that demand.

Simply the best DJ book available., November 21, 2002

I have been searching for a book that clearly defines each type of "DJ", and this book does it incredibly well! I am considered a "beginner", and How To Be A DJ explained the skills, music and equipment I needed to get started. I have now been hired to DJ at two weddings which went really well, and the marketing tips in this book were very helpful to me, allowing me to book four Christmas parties! The marketing information in this book is priceless; no other DJ in my town offers what I offer, but I imagine they'll copy me once they find out what's going on! Great explanation on the pros and cons of vinyl too. I almost went vinyl before I realized the benefits of CDs, and now you can even play and scratch with CDs too. The music lists in this book are from a few years ago, but that is actually a bonus, because most of the folks at my mobile DJ gigs are a little older and complimented me on my (well, the author's) music selection. I am quickly building a profitable business that would have taken me much longer without the information in this book! I would give it 10 stars if I could! I HIGHLY recommend reading this book, even DJs who think they already know everything. This was the best [money] I ever spent!

a copy? Well, a friend of mine who could remember checking out and reading
the book when he was a kid, thought he would try to find a copy for himself just
for sentimental reasons. To his surprise this book is extremely rare and
expensive if you do find a copy for sale. With books going from $375 for a
very damaged copy to upwards of $2,000 for a decent copy he knew it would
be a task. So he enlisted my help, and a couple of weeks later I just happened
to find a copy at an old library book sale. So I purchased this book in great
condition at a considerable discount. I sold it to him for a profit (of course), but
before I let go of it I felt that the information contained herin needs to be
shared. I submit to you the only electronic copy of The Golden Book of
Chemistry Experiments in existance...

Hard to find, (and very costly if you do) is the original 1960 edition of this book.
It seems to have gained infamy since the 1995 incident near Detroit of child
chemist, David Hahn. With the release of a full scale book this month by author
Ken Silverstein called 'The Radioactive Boyscout', which details this nuclear
incident, the popularity of this early chemistry 'how to do it' book will only grow.
The early edition is known for its 50's style simplicity where chemical wastes
and pollution were never a concern to Americans, certainly not in the age of
'better living through chemistry'!!! Thoroughly interesting and full of ideas and

To the outside world, a "supercomputer" appears to be a single system. In fact, it's a cluster of computers that share a local area network and have the ability to work together on a single problem as a team. Many businesses used to consider supercomputing beyond the reach of their budgets, but new Linux applications have made high-performance clusters more affordable than ever. These days, the promise of low-cost supercomputing is one of the main reasons many businesses choose Linux over other operating systems.
This new guide covers everything a newcomer to clustering will need to plan, build, and deploy a high-performance Linux cluster. The book focuses on clustering for high-performance computation, although much of its information also applies to clustering for high-availability (failover and disaster recovery). The book discusses the key tools you'll need to get started, including good practices to use while exploring the tools and growing a system. You'll learn about planning, hardware choices, bulk installation of Linux on multiple systems, and other basic considerations. Then, you'll learn about software options that can save you hours--or even weeks--of deployment time.
Since a wide variety of options exist in each area of clustering software, the author discusses the pros and cons of the major free software projects and chooses those that are most likely to be helpful to new cluster administrators and programmers. A few of the projects introduced in the book include:
* MPI, the most popular programming library for clusters. This book offers simple but realistic introductory examples along with some pointers for advanced use.
* OSCAR and Rocks, two comprehensive installation and administrative systems
* openMosix (a convenient tool for distributing jobs), Linux kernel extensions that migrate processes transparently for load balancing
* PVFS, one of the parallel filesystems that make clustering I/O easier
* C3, a set of commands for administering multiple systems
Ganglia, OpenPBS, and cloning tools (Kickstart, SIS and G4U) are also covered. The book looks at cluster installation packages (OSCAR & Rocks) and then considers the core packages individually for greater depth or for folks wishing to do a custom installation. Guidelines for debugging, profiling, performance tuning, and managing jobs from multiple users round out this immensely useful book.
