Anna Faris is lining up a new project. We’ve learned from friends involved in the production that she’s being courted for a new horror/comedy called Burn Off.
The movie is about a man named Peter Hansen, a fitness obsessed man whose once thin wife has gotten fat. To help them both achieve the perfect weight, he begins using a diet drink called “Burn Off” which doesn’t work as advertised. The user loses weight, but also his mind. The drink turns Peter into a sadistic murderer who keeps his wife a locked in the basement. No confirmation on what part Anna would play, but it seems likely that she’ll end up imprisoned downstairs.
At one point Larry Cohen was to direct, but we hear that they’re hoping to get Rob Zombie to helm it. He’s never done comedy before, but the man has a rapidly growing reputation as a horror director with a psychotic edge. Can he be funny? We may find out.
If they’re able to get Faris as their lead, she’ll join a cast already composed of Tony Todd, Elizabeth Berkley, and Jason Mewes. Robert A Trezza, Mark Daponte wrote the script, and they're planning a $25 million shoot in Mexico once they get everything locked in.l
Che is barely in theaters and we’re already hearing about a follow up - thankfully not in the form of a sequel though. Instead the writer/producer team of Peter Buchman and Steven Soderbergh are working together on another film, switching from one Cuban revolutionary to another - one that successfully infiltrated the mob.
Hollywood Reporter announced the project, Making Jack Falcone, which will tell the story of Jack Falcone aka Joaquin Garcia, an FBI agent who almost became a made man after going undercover and infiltrating the Gambino crime family. The trade newspaper offered that the story based on Garcia’s life, and the man’s ability to shift between Sicilian, Cuban, and other ethnicities, should be very appealing to actors adept at transforming themselves for a role.
Buchman will write Making Jack Falcone, based on the Simon & Schuster / Touchstone book released last month. Soderbergh will serve as executive producer, offering guidance as needed. The picture is set up at Paramount, joining several other mafia pictures in development at the studio.l
Fashion designer Tom Ford has snagged two up and comers to join the already stellar cast of his directorial debut, A Single Man. HR reports that Ginnifer Goodwin and Nicholas Hoult will round out the ensemble.
A Single Man is an adaptation of the Christopher Isherwood novel and will follow the trials and tribulations of a gay professor in the ‘60s, played by Colin Firth. Goodwin (Big Love) will play an intrigued neighbor who befriends Firth. Newcomer from across the pond, Hault (About a Boy), will play one of his students who is confused about his sexuality. Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode also star.
With Milk about to be in theaters and now this, it seems that gayness in films is finally moving on from Brokeback Mountain. After his turn as the stereotypical “gay one” in paisley pants in Mama Mia, I am excited to see Colin Firth play a more serious gay man. And, who better to direct a flick about a single gay man than an out and proud queer man? I hope this movie is as flamboyant as Ford’s clothes. Go gettem, Ford!l
Charlize Theron is taking a trip with Tom Cruise. Variety says she’s joined the cast of The Tourist, where she’ll play an Interpol agent who uses an American tourist (Cruise) to hunt down a criminal whom she once had relations of an intimate nature with. That means ---.
The movie is a remake of a French film from way back in 2005. I’m not sure it’s wise to remake something so old, but with Charlize Theron and Tom Cruise involved, you have to assume Hollywood knows what it’s doing. They start shooting in March, which should give us all plenty of time to forget how much Tom Cruise sucked in Valkyrie, making it easier to be optimistic about a movie in which we watch him trudging around in flip-flops on vacation. Of course since it’s Tom Cruise, his vacation will include Charlize Theron and things blowing up.l
Madagascar 2: Escape 2 Africa is not even in theaters yet and it’s already breaking records, of a sort. DreamWorks Animation announced this morning that when the movie opens on Friday it will do so in a record-breaking number of IMAX theaters, in addition to showings on thousands of regular theater screens.
In total, the film will be available in 130 IMAX theaters, 35 of which are equipped with the new whiz-bang IMAX digital projection system. That’s more IMAX showings than ever delivered by any other film, and it demonstrates the level of interest Hollywood seems to have in pushing further and further into IMAX technology. Madagascar 2 is the second of five movies which DreamWorks Animation plans to release in the format. The next three will be not only in IMAX but also in 3D. Those are Monsters vs. Aliens (March 2009), How to Train Your Dragon (March 2010), and Shrek Goes Fourth (May 2010).
Of course for most of you, this is utterly meaningless since IMAX locations are generally hard to come by unless you happen to live in a sprawling metropolis. Or if you’re like me, you live in a sprawling metropolis, but on the wrong side of it, leaving an hour drive to the nearest IMAX theater. Hard to justify when there’s a perfectly serviceable theater with perfectly serviceable projection and lower ticket prices just down the block.
If you can find it and you can afford it though, there’s no better way to see a movie than in IMAX. Even if that movie is Madagascar 2. l
Jessica Simpson's hairdresser pal is healing well after he was injured during a paparazzi scrum at the weekend.
Celebrity stylist Ken Paves needed nine stitches in his head after he was cut trying to protect the singer from photographers as they left Los Angeles' Madeo restaurant on Saturday.
Paves insists he is recovering but appeals to photographers to take more care, so the accident isn't repeated.
He tells Usmagazine.com, "I appreciate everyone who has expressed concern after the incident which occurred outside of Madeo restaurant Saturday evening. While I did not expect a dinner out with friends would end up with me in the emergency room and nine stitches in my head, I am fine.
"My only real concern on Saturday night, and it remains so in retrospect, was for the safety of my friend and all concerned.
"I understand everyone has a job to do, including paparazzi. If I were to say anything about Saturday night, it is only to encourage that everyone would respect and care for the safety of others above all else." l
Tim Robbins' election day started with drama in New York on Tuesday, when the actor was blocked from voting by officials.
The fervent Barack Obama supporter attempted to register his vote for the Democrat candidate for president at a polling station near his home in the city, the same station he had attended for the past 15 years - but his name wasn't on the list.
When instructed to fill out a provisional ballot, Robbins refused, repeating a claim he had made on U.S. political pundit Bill Maher's TV show just a week before - when he warned that the paper votes aren't properly counted.
He told Maher, "They're throwing those out... If that's your last resort, take it, but fight in the polling place to vote. It's your right as an American. You have every right to vote if you're registered. And if you're not on the rolls and something went wrong, document it."
The fuming 50 year old told the New York Times on Tuesday, "The issue is that they removed my name from the voting rolls. My name was there for the primaries. The poll workers here know me. I've been voting here 15 years."
When a poll worker threatened to call police, the actor retorted, "Is this some kind of intimidation? I'm taking this as intimidation."
Eventually Robbins raced to New York's Board of Elections, where he discovered he was registered to vote after all. He then returned to cast his vote. l
Kirsten Dunst has launched an investigation of the U.S. voting system in a new documentary.
Dunst has teamed up with filmmaker Jacob Soboroff to direct and produce the film, exploring why American voter participation lags behind turnout in most other countries.
The two are currently at work in North Dakota - the only state without voter registration - where they will interview government officials as citizens take to the polls for Tuesday's presidential election.
Voters must instead bring a photo ID issued by the state, military or an American Indian tribe, a recent utility bill listing their address or sign a sworn statement attesting that they are eligible to vote in their precinct.
And the actress is convinced it's up to her to shed light on the process.
She says, "The older you get, it makes you feel more and more responsible for the power you have, especially being in the entertainment industry... and how delicate and important it is to use that power to influence people in a positive way.
"Being a part of this is constantly teaching me new things. I feel totally honoured and was really proud to vote, and have never been so proud to vote in my entire life."
Dunst also plans to narrate the documentary, but doesn't know yet whether she will appear in it. l

Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood has branded politicians "sell outs" after serving as a small-town mayor in the 1980s.
The Dirty Harry star, 78, governed Californian beach haven Carmel-by-the-sea from 1986 to 1988.
But the actor insists it was as high as his political ambitions go.
He says, "I enjoyed being Mayor of Carmel, but you do see that it is very difficult to get things done. You just have to lose your soul. You have to bulls**t people.
"You have to deal with people you don't care for and will never be friends with, so you kind of sell yourself out to be a politician. You have to kiss it up with the world. That ain't (sic) my style." l

Talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey launched a last-minute bid to urge Americans to vote on Tuesday.
The host has rallied around Democratic candidate Barack Obama since publicly endorsing him in December, and she started out election day by encouraging her fellow citizens to ignore long lines at the polls.
In an election-day interview with New York radio station Power 105.1, Winfrey, who cast her vote for Obama last week (ends31Oct08), said, "Come with your book, bring your iPod. Get ready to sit and have a party with yourself. There is no better way to celebrate than standing in line. Take your families. For so many people who have kids, it's a wonderful thing for your kids to see.
"We're going to remember this forever. Your kids will be telling their kids that they were there in the booth with their parents."
The host stood in line for an hour and 10 minutes when she voted last week, taking advantage of early-voting laws in Illinois.
She remembers: "I was voting in a precinct that was across the street from a drug treatment centre. Thirty-seven women from the treatment centre - they had just detoxed - had come over and voted for the first time, and it was fantastic.
"It's a miracle that's happening, really. I can feel the shift in our country."
And Winfrey has already prepared for her candidate's victory, adding: "When Barack wins this evening, it's a victory for all of America, because black people and brown people and red people and yellow people all understand that he understands that all villages matter. That's what (former Secretary of State) Colin Powell said when gave that beautiful endorsement of him. That is why I loved and supported him from the beginning."
Winfrey's endorsement of the Democrat was the first time she has ever publicly backed a presidential candidate

Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman has laid down a new rule forbidding her family to be apart for more than a week at a time.
Both Kidman and her singer husband, Keith Urban, vowed to prioritise their personal lives over their work following the birth of their first child together, daughter Sunday Rose, in July.
The Australian star admits that she used to be separated from her husband for long periods of time because of their busy schedules, but recently reduced the allowed time gap to two weeks.
But Kidman now can't bear to be apart from her family for any more than seven days.
She tells U.S. magazine Glamour, "We reduced it even more. I have reached a stage in my life when I want to be with the ones I love. I used to be willing to do two weeks. And that is too much now; my heart aches.
"I've given a lot to my work, and I'm not willing to give as much to that anymore. At this time in my life, I want to be giving to my relationships." l

British actress Kate Winslet is convinced growing up as an overweight teenager has scarred her for life - because she still always feels like the "fat kid".
Winslet struggled with her weight throughout her youth and insists her battle with the bulge led to deep-rooted insecurities which have plagued her throughout her acting career.
She tells Vanity Fair magazine, "I was fat. I didn't know any fat famous actresses. I just did not see myself in that world at all.
"Once a fat kid, always a fat kid. Because you always think that you just look a little bit wrong or a little bit different from everyone else.
"And I still sort of have that. I often look at women who wear great jeans and high heels and nice little T-shirts wandering around the city and I think, I should make more of an effort. I should look like that." l

Charlize Theron has settled a $20 million (GBP12.6 million) lawsuit with the luxury watchmaker that accused her of breach of contract.
Bosses at Swiss company Raymond Weil claimed they paid Theron the sum to wear its watches exclusively between October 2005 and December 2006.
According to court documents, Theron broke their agreement when she "was actually photographed wearing a watch from the Christian Dior line" at a press event in Austin, Texas on 14 March 2006.

Company executives added the violations "demonstrate a total disregard by (Theron) for any of her obligations under the agreement".
The settlement follows her lawyers' failed attempts to have the case dismissed.
New court documents filed in Manhattan Federal Court reveal the suit will be tossed when it is finalised within 30 days.

Actress Jennifer Hudson blames herself for last month's tragic murders of her mother, brother and nephew in her native Chicago, Illinois - insisting she should have convinced her family to move out of the troubled neighbourhood.
Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, and brother, Jason, were found shot dead at their home in the city on 24 October. The singer/actress' seven-year-old nephew, Julian King, was also killed - his body was found in an abandoned car three days later.
And the Oscar-winning Dreamgirls star, 27, now feels wracked with guilt over the deaths, claiming she should have done more to move them away from the family home in Chicago's notorious South Side to live with her in Los Angeles.
Family friend Sharita Dickey says, "Jennifer grew up on Chicago's South Side, and knew all about the violence. She was able to get out, and wanted to take her mama with her, but Darnell said no."
Hudson's second cousin, Reverend Krista Alston, adds, "Jennifer is hurting and asking why this happened. She's asking why she didn't do more to persuade Darnell to move away.
"It was Darnell's decision to stay here in Chicago. This was her home and her family were here."
Police are currently quizzing William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson's sister Julia, over the slayings, but authorities have not filed any charges against him

Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan has made a last-ditch attempt to urge her fans to vote in Tuesday's U.S. presidential election, insisting every vote counts.
The Mean Girls star, 22, made the plea online in her MySpace.com blog on Monday.
She writes, "I cannot say how important it is for everyone to get out there and vote tomorrow...The future of our country depends on it.
"Just one vote can make such a difference... Vote - because your thoughts are worth it..Vote - because You can make this country a better place...Vote - because you can."
Lohan has previously slammed Republican John McCain's running mate Sarah Palin for her strict views on gay rights, branding the Alaska Governor a "narrow-minded, media-obsessed homophobe".
And she urged fans to reject two controversial Californian initiatives: Proposition 8, which bans gay marriage; and Proposition 4, which requires parents to get 48 hours' notice before doctors perform abortions on a minor.

Horror moviemaker Darren Lynn Bousman's mother was so distraught when the director first cast Paris Hilton in his new movie Repo! The Genetic Opera she threatened to disown him.
Like many friends, fans and critics alike, Bousman's mum was more than surprised when he announced Hilton as his star.
And he admits he fought the idea of having the socialite in his film for the longest time: "I was adamantly opposed to casting Paris because the first thing people said to me was, 'Think of the press you'll get if you put Paris in it.' I thought, 'Whatever horror cred I have is about to go down the toilet.'
"My mother calls me crying from Kansas City - 'Why did you cast her, that charlatan?' She was very upset.
"My mother logged onto this website and read, 'Paris Hilton caught smoking dope in back alley.' That's not Paris Hilton. The paparazzi took pictures during a break while we were recording the soundtrack and she was drinking a water; the smoke was coming from the musicians smoking cigarettes.
"People spin these stories about her and that's how they know Paris Hilton. My idea of Paris, before I met her, was this really spoiled rich kid who is better than everyone else. As it turns out she was not the person I expected her to be. She was so charming.
"She stayed at the exact same hotel and ate at the same restaurants, and went to the same s**tty bar as all of us. I'm a dive bar kind of guy and she didn't come with an entourage or a single dog. She had just gotten out of her legal trouble so it was important for her to show that she wasn't this person. She really won me over." l

Latest: The death of a special effects technician on the movie set of The Dark Knight was an accident, an inquest has ruled.
A jury at Monday's two-day inquest at Woking Coroner's Court in Surrey, England heard that Conway Wickliffe lost his life during a test run for a scene in the latest Batman film, in which the Batmobile is blown up.
The 41-year-old father-of-two was leaning out of a car while operating a camera when the vehicle crashed on the test track at the QinetiQ site in Surrey in September 2007.
Wickliffe's partner, Dee Chase, is now urging big movie companies to hire health and safety officials to oversee every stunt in a bid to prevent further tragedies.
Chase says, "Warner Brothers (the studio behind The Dark Knight) are a huge multi-million dollar company - why are they cutting corners like this? These guys are under pressure because the director will say he wants something and they have to respond as quickly as possible. It is the culture of the industry and it needs to change."
According to the BBC, bosses at the Health and Safety Executive (Hse) may now bring a prosecution over the incident. l

Amy Winehouse's husband Blake Fielder-Civil has reportedly been released from jail - and headed straight to rehab.
Fielder-Civil was sentenced to 27 months behind bars earlier this year after he was convicted of causing actual bodily harm (ABH) and perverting the course of justice.
He has been serving his time at Highpoint Prison in Suffolk, England, but is alleged to have struck a deal with prosecutors for an early release.
Online reports claim Fielder-Civil walked free from jail on Wednesday morning - and has checked into a drug treatment centre in Surrey, south east England, in a bid to kick his addiction to narcotics as part of the deal.
Winehouse was not present for her husband's release - she is currently fighting her own health troubles after being treated for a chest infection in London last week.
However, she is expected to visit Fielder-Civil later this week.
A spokesperson for Winehouse was unavailable for comment as WENN went to press. l

Latest: Ivana Trump has brushed off reports her husband Rossano Rubicondi's alleged extramarital affair has caused the couple to split.
Rubicondi, who is currently appearing on the Italian version of reality TV show Survivor in Honduras, was reportedly accused by a fellow contestant of cheating on the socialite while filming the programme.
But Trump, 59, insists the allegations are false, as she awaits the 35-year-old's return from the series to determine the course of their relationship.
In her column for the New York Post's Page Six Magazine, she writes: "Nothing sexual happened. That I know for sure. Rossano is on his way back from Honduras (where he competed in an Italian reality TV show).
"I'm not going to make any other comment until I speak to him... Then I'll make a decision about how to handle the situation."

G*ay rights advocates have slammed long-running TV cartoon The Simpsons after one of the show's popular characters made a homophobic comment.
The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) have spoken out against the use of the phrase "that's so gay" which was used in a recent Halloween episode aired in the U.S. last week.
The comment was made by Nelson Muntz, voiced by Nancy Cartwright, who bullies the series' character Milhouse Van Houten.
Glsen bosses have demanded that the show's scriptwriters halt any further use of the comment - insisting the negative interpretation of being gay offends homosexuals.
In a statement released to TMZ.com, they say, "Nelson's use of 'that's so gay' in a negative way is not surprising considering that 90 per cent of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth say they hear the term used this way frequently or often at school.
"Nelson should visit ThinkB4YouSpeak.com where he can send an apologetic e-card to Milhouse. Glsen would also welcome Nelson's participation in our next PSA so he can make amends by helping to educate young people about why such language is wrong."
A spokesperson for the show has not commented as WENN goes to press. l

Mamma Mia! composer Benny Andersson has shot down rumours he's working on a sequel to the movie adaptation of the hit stage show.
The summer release, which is based on the songs of Swedish pop stars Abba, has become a major box office smash internationally, grossing more than $559 million (GBP353.7 million) worldwide.
But Abba's Andersson insists Universal Pictures bosses have yet to approach him about a follow-up.
He says, "There is no talk of a sequel. (But they) would like a sequel because they're just flabbergasted at the success - more than anyone, I think."
However, that does not mean Andersson and songwriting pal Bjorn Ulvaeus are not interested in the project if screenwriter Catherine Johnson pens a new plotline: "If she comes up with something, if she's keen on it, then maybe she'll call us."

Harry Potter star Emma Watson is riled by reports she's a serial dater and has urged fans not to believe everything they read in the tabloids.
The 18-year-old actress has amassed a personal fortune, estimated at $16 million (GBP10.1 million), from her role in the boy wizard film franchise, and she insists finding the right man isn't an easy task.
She tell Britain's Hello magazine, "I've been linked to so many guys that I sound like a wanton woman!
"People say, 'Oh, boys must be lining up for you.' It's really not that easy. I suppose guys are either intimidated by me and have their defences up or like to take the mickey (make fun) out of me.
"On set, I'm surrounded by cute, older guys. It's a minefield, to be honest. It's stressful." l

Oprah Winfrey was so desperate to be part of Barack Obama's success as he was elected the 44th president of the U.S. on Tuesday night, she used a portable park loo for the first time.
Millions of Americans saw the talk show queen in tears during Obama's moving post-election speech in Chicago, Illinois' Grant Park - and Winfrey was so determined not to miss a word, she kept her legs crossed and dashed for a Port-a-Potty as the new President left the stage.
She says, "In all these years at every event, I've said, 'No, I'm not going to do the Port-a-potty.but I said I better use it."
And she's glad she supported Obama prior to the election and on her friend's big night: "I would have lost my soul if I had not stood up for Barack Obama and it was worth everything for me to do it. It feels like something big happened."
She only hopes the new President keeps in touch.
Winfrey tells news show Extra, "I'm just hoping the email address doesn't change." l
