Project Gotham Racing 3D by Glu
I've held a candle for Project Gotham Racing ever since it was a young whipper-snapper called Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast console. The latest version on Xbox 360 is a marvellous driving game, and earlier this year, Glu Mobile announced it was working on a mobile version.
Well, the publisher has released some shots showing just how spiffing it's looking, and has also announced the line-up of cars that you'll be able to drive in the game. They are:

The game is due out early next year, and Glu says each car will have its own unique physics and engine specs, including top speed and horsepower. For that reason, it's a damn shame it hasn't included the Robin Reliant. Maybe next time.
Back in May of this year Glu mobile announced an alliance with Microsoft that would allow them to develop and publish a mobile version of Project Gotham Racing and in a recent visit to the company’s headquarters it was unveiled before our eyes. After carefully distracting the product manager Ilya with a sly “look over there” and snatching the handset, we got a few ticks in with the game before having to hand it back, reluctantly.
PGR borrows heavily from its console brethren so players can expect to see a number of the luscious cars and distinct locales to be included. As well, since it’s a game of speed and style, the “kudos” system is also in effect. This means that it employs a style-scoring and risk-taking system that rewards you for drifting, drafting, close encounters and excessive air time. It’s not just how you race, but how good you look doing so, and this game does it well.
For those looking at a competitive format, ghost racing is also part of the plan. Users will be allowed to upload their performance so that others can download and go head-to-head to see who is better. To ensure that your entire group of friends can participate, cross-carrier connections are expected.
The racing is pretty sharp with fast-moving vehicles and backgrounds that imitate real world locations to a tee. Opponents are very aggressive in keeping their positions and the tracks also provide a necessary challenge because they are constantly changing direction. To command the vehicle, only one hand is needed for steering and drifting and thankfully, the movement is tight. It’s not like you’re swerving everywhere and are fighting for control because it feels quite good, even when countersteering during a drift. It’s simple and provides a nice feel.
There is not doubt that the competition for racing games on mobile is stiff with a number of known console and mobile-only franchises already established. PGR is the new kid on the block and is looking to gain notoriety, and already in its current form has impressive visuals, controls and racing action, enough so to
possibly make it one of the elite brands on mobile

You don't get many elephants wandering across cricket pitches mid-innings. At least, I don't think you do. Not being a Sky subscriber, I rely on Test Match Special on the radio for cricket coverage, and the old buffers there have never broken off from discussing Mrs Miggins from Derbyshire's cake to point out a pachyderm on the pitch.
That's just one way Freddie Flintoff All Round Cricket differs from more serious cricket sims, such as Player One's Michael Vaughan's Cricket 06/07. Animals regularly hove into view when you're getting ready to strike – and what's more, you're rewarded for hitting them. The WWF wouldn't approve, but we most certainly do.
Anyway, this game is based on a series of one-on-one battles between all-rounders – you play Freddie, and your cartoon opponents are not-so-subtly disguised versions of famous cricketers: 'Mad Dog Shane' the Aussie spinner, anyone?
You have to bat against their bowling for 24 balls, and then switch. Whoever scores the most runs wins, but if you're bowled or caught three times, you're out.
And it's not about squeezing away quick singles. This is a hoick-fest, where the aim is to batter as many sixes and fours as possible. When batting, an indicator tells you where the ball is going to pitch, while its colour tells you whether it's a straight ball, spinner or seamer.
Pick your spot, press '5' to build up your power, and choose a direction to launch your shot (or get bowled out like an idiot).
Meanwhile, bowling involves stopping a slide to choose what kind of ball you're after from the three mentioned above, and then moving the indicator to place it. Both batting and bowling are easy to get to grips with, although as you unlock better opponents, the increased speed makes batting harder.
The matches take place in unorthodox settings – a park for England, a city street for India, a desert scene for South Africa, a beach for the West Indies, and the outback for Australia. A key part of the game is scoring bonus points by thwacking the ball into objects like cars, boats and buildings.
Meanwhile, if you brain an animal – this is where the elephants come in – you get a Super Shot next go, which scores double points. You can also build up to get a Super Shot by hitting lots of sixes. It works well, and brings an element of targeting to the thumpfest.
Game-wise, you can play a Quick Match against any of the in-game players, although to get the full range you'll have to unlock them by playing the World Tour, which is three separate trophies that are increasingly hard to win. Survival Mode, on the other hand, has you batting against all 12 opponents in order, with each getting three bowls at you but you only having one wicket. Finally, there's a Bluetooth multiplayer mode to compete against a friend.
The game looks polished, with bold cartoon graphics, and fluid animation. It's a sparkling attempt to create a fun and involving mobile game from a sport that isn't ideally suited to the pick up'n'play dynamics of mobile. Whether you're a hardcore cricket fan or a casual observer hoping England will win the Ashes, this is top notch.

Need for Speed Pro Street is the new title of the series. Need for Speed Pro Street is somewhat different than any other Need for Speed before. If you think this is an add-on of any previous title of the series – it isn’t. NFS Pro Street is different; it has a totally new driving experience, new game modes and new features. With this title EA wants to shift up street racing to the next level.The most important change is that the game takes place in closed tracks, so there is no open world anymore. EA did a lot of research on this and came to the conclusion that this is where the culture in real life is going: an aggressive street racing with almost no rules, taking place on closed roads without any cops or traffic.
The game is already in development for almost 2 years and there are going to be some significant changes. Basically, the main new features are damage, physics and smoke. All three things are highly evolved, but I’ll get to that later.
Damage:
In earlier NFS games the cops and traffic made it harder for you to finish the race, but now this is done by damage. The game is all about damage, you have to watch out that you don’t wreck your car, because repairing is expensive and you might not be able to use it for a while.
This time the damage is not just scratches and bumps…this time you could wreck your car completely, so
that you aren’t even able to finish the race. The damage model looks really amazing…far more realistic than what we’ve ever seen before! Bumper
s and tires can fall off, windows break, hoods fly away and based on the material (metal, glass, plastic or carbon) it gets scratches or breaks. All the damage is calculated on-the-fly, so it doesn’t look always the same. It even depends on how fast you hit a wall, the car will be damaged based on many parameters. And the best thing is: the damage will affect your performance. The more you crash your car, the slower you will get. If you crash your car too much, the race is over.
Since repairing does cost some money, you might want to spend most of it to build in new parts to the engine and what is under the hood, than repairing the outside. It’s still street racing, so it actually would look cooler, if you don’t have a shiny new car without scratches, but a car where everyone knows that you already raced with it. We’ll see how this works out once the game steps further in development.
Locations:
The tracks in Need for Speed Pro Street are based on locations, which exist in the real world. EA did a lot of research and took many photos to make the tracks look as realistic as possible. As the player you travel all around the world to participate at the race events, which take place all over the world. Each event is hosted by different organizations, so it will always have a different style. It’ll play even a different music style, depending on which event you participate.
Game modes:
There are 4 game modes in Need for Speed Pro Street: GRIP, Drift, Drag and Speed Challenge. For every game mode, you will have your personal car, which is perfectly balanced for this type of race. EA didn’t talk much about the game modes in the game, but so far GRIP will be like the circuit mode, where you race a certain number of laps. The drift mode will be different than in NFS Carbon, because of the new car physics. To extend accessibility, Electronic Arts built in “assists”, which will help you steering the car and staying on the track. If you turn off all the assists, it’s more for the hardcore gamers and the game will be more like simulation – it is more real.
The drag mode returns, but there is no information yet, what will be different.
The new game mode is called Speed Challenge, which is mainly a really long track, where you can push your car to the limits. At highest speeds you race down a straight road, with almost no curves. But once you try to steer, you have to watch out not to get off the road, because that high speed can be dangerous…
Cars:
It is typical for Need for Speed, that the game consists of licensed cars and so it is also this time. There will be more cars than in any other Need for Speed games. There will be cars from around 26 manufacturers. From all these cars, there will be 8 “super-cars”, which we will be able to tune to the high-end.
If we don’t like all the these eight super-cars, we are free to take a lower-end car and tune it up, so that we can compete with the better cars. In the end, it’s all about our driving and the tuning combinations, we build in our car. More about that under “customization”.
Customization:
The customization is a big part in Need for Speed Pro Street. For once, you have the visual styling with Autosculpt, we already know from NFS Carbon. But this time it’s much more detailed and we can autosculpt almost any part of the car. And the best thing is: The visual tuning of our car will affect the performance! So we should think about the practical sense of how we design our car, because of the new physics engine, every modification will affect the performance. It’s not only about the look anymore. For this reason EA built in for example a wind tunnel, where we can test our new car design, if it fits our needs.
Apart from the visual tuning we have the performance tuning. As with Autosculpt also performance tuning is far more detailed than before. To extend accessibility, EA introduced different layers of modifications. On the first layer, the “arcade-style” people can upgrade their cars by just using predefined upgrade packages. If we want to go deeper though, there is a whole world of possibilities. We can change almost everything, parts of the engine, brakes, tires…there are 90+ individual part slots and 30+ tuning variables. We can modify our car in a way, that it fits exactly our needs. We can build in plenty of aftermarket parts, and each will affect the performance of our car in a different way. We have the possibility to test our car on a dyno though, and we’ll get a graphical feedback, so that we can find the best combinations of parts.
Since there is so much concentration on the customization, EA introduced a new feature called “blue prints”. We don’t have to build in every part we want immediately; we can save our tuning combinations as a blue print. So we can create our ideal combination of parts, and only if we apply the blue print to our car, they’re going to be built in.
Graphics:
The cars are designed to look more photo-real, not as in NFS Carbon. Each car has about 15.000 to 20.000 polygons, and they really look good. The lights reflects as it should, even based on the material, and as we already saw on the trailer, the damage model is very detailed too. The car models are real titbits for racing fans.
A big new graphical feature in this game is the smoke! In almost every racing game, the smoke the tires make looked very primitive or are even 2D textures. The smoke looks damn good. Especially when doing a burnout or drifting around it’s very important that it feels as real as possible. And it really does with the smoke, which was made with Shader Model 3.0.
We will see how it will look like with older graphic cars on the PC – the next-gen consoles can handle the graphical features very well so far. The system requirements for PC will definitely be higher than for Carbon or any other racing game lately, but we’ll know more about that as the development evolves.
Music:
As in every Need for Speed game the music is very important. This time EA got Junkie XL to create some tracks, which are playing during the game. Depending on which event you’re participating, you’ll listen to different music styles, like for example Hard Rock, Techno, Electronic or Punk. These styles are connected with the organizations, who set up these events.
Apart from Junkie XL there will be also other music from licensed artists.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 3D - Mobile
Mobile version of the game «S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl» will be a three-dimensional shooter, with stealth elements and mini quests. For its creation, unique 3D engine will be used, allowing game to work even on weak phone models. The plot of the game will be directly connected to the plot of PC version – you’ll meet known characters, heroes, objects and locations – but, will not replicate it. Also, maximally realistic battle system is provided in the game – with detailed hit model, bullet wounds and real types of weaponry. look self... TRAILER...
