Well, the collapse of the Soviet Union was not ignorable. I don’t think anybody could say the Soviet Union was bound to collapse in the late eighties. Certainly we look at it now and it all seems very ordered and just destined to happen but I think the Soviet Union off course could if - could if could be around right now if it hadn’t bent for many of the polices were persuaded by the soviet union's last leader Mia gurfichalf. But if I have to point to some long term trends that influence the collapse of the soviet union taking as given that there was this person Gurbichalf and that he put in place the number of polices. Basically, the Soviet Union collapsed because it couldn’t meet all the obligations it had required I mean the burden of empire for the soviet union was just becoming too much by the late eighty. i'm Hungarian and i'd like to tell you how to make goulash. if you have a nice piece of ah beef you cut it into ah two inch pieces and ah you lightly salt it before you put it into the hot, onion. as you're preparing the meat ah you have in a_ in a large pan, slice some onion thick- thickly because the onion will make a nice juice if it's cut nice and thick and very little oil is needed and you will keep a kettle of hot water nearby so when the meat has been cut up and the onion is almost transparent then you add the meat. ah when the onion is nearly transparent then you salt and pepper the onion and you put on a generous spoon of paprika. this will turn it like ah golden brown and you can then add just a very little bit of water. it's important not to use too much water because you want to make this for the juice of the meat and the onion. so when you put in the beef and you_ you've turned it on all sides then you make the flame very low and you simmer it very slowly and that will make the juice of the meat ah enhance the sauce. as you go make sure that the juice is not boiling away or evaporating. just add water a little at a time. now when the meat is nearly done then you cut up your vegetables and your carrots, potatoes, parsley, celery, each of those can be prepared in advanced and cut up into ah pieces the size that the meat has been cut up, and then when the meat is nearly done, i'd say about an hour cooking, then you add all the vegetables into it. there should be nice juice there, if not add a little water but not too much. now close it tightly because then the vegetables will cook in the steam. and ah when the vegetables are done then you have your goulash and you can also add cabbage to it. you quarter or eighth the cabbage, put that in the last twenty minutes that you're cooking it, and once once the veggies are done you have a nice goulash

well the collapse of the Soviet Union was not inevitable. um i don't think um um anybody could say that um the Soviet Union was bound to collapse um in the late eighties. um and certainly we look at_ we look at it now and it all seems ah very ordered and ah just destined to happen ah, but i think that the Soviet Union of course could have_ could be around right now, um if it hadn't been for many of the policies that were pursued by_ by_ by the Soviet Union's last leader, (Mikael Gorbachev) but if i have to point to some long term trend- um um that influenced the collapse of the Soviet Union, um taking_ taking as_ as_ as given that yaknow there was this person ah named (Gorbachev) and that he um put in place a number of policies. um basically the Soviet Union collapsed because it couldn't_ it couldn't meet ah all the obligations that_ the oblig- the obligations that it had acquired. i mean, um th- the burden of Empire for the Soviet Union was just uh becoming too much, by the_ by the late eighties and um certainly it could have muddled through, yaknow, who knows, ten, fifteen, twenty years, ah but by_ by the_ by the late seventies um it was clear that ah the Soviet union was engaged in a_ in a sort of race or competition with the West, with the United States and it couldn't keep up um and there is um a long-term trend observed in the_ in the Soviet economy. the Soviet economy grows very quickly, very fast, um, in the forties and the fifties, in the sixties it begins to slow down and the slo- the slow down becomes more and more pronounced in the_ in the seventies, and_ and finally in the_ in the eighties, the Soviet economy is not growing and this is crucial because ah um the Soviet Union was um ah a military, industrial complex um um, imposed on_ on a police state, that means um the Soviet Union needed um its military industrial complex to produce the technologies and the weapons that that uh could allow it to continue competing with the United States and with the West which is um what its position of super power er obliged it to do. um but because of the nature of its closed economy um the military industrial complex was observing more and more resources uh from_ from a shrinking pie as time went by and it was producing less and less and uh for the_ for the West um that was not a problem because the nature of western economies is different and um yaknow resources that are going to the military don't necessarily have to come from the civilian economy but for the Soviet Union that was a big problem. and the Soviet Union um was never ah really a super power to begin with ah ah. it_ as_ as a country um it was the more_ the most multi-ethnic yaknow federation in the world. there were many nationalities, many_ there were many simmering problems, many simmering tensions that had been there for a long time and ah ah um when somebody actually came up and_ and admitted to the fact that the way of things had_ that had_ the way things had been done for a long time had to change, it was too much stress for the whole ah system to bear, so it_ it cracked and yaknow it basically ah ended up ah breaking yaknow in the end.
