Summary:

Magellan a protugalian person started his voyage from Spain to Atlantic Ocean, Brazil and southern Argentina then he moved distance about 360 miles long until reached to Pacific Ocean that now we called it Magellan’s strait. After sailed the Pacific Ocean they didn’t see any lands but then 100 days they reached to Guam. When they reached to Philippine Magellan was killed. One ship of five ships without Magellan can sailed around the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa and after short stay in Canary Islands back to Spain. It took these men over two years to sail around the world from 1519 until 1521
Magellan himself did not sail around the world but he proved the men could sail around the world and world is round.

SAILING AROUND THE WORLD

Magellan's voyage proved the men could sail around the world . It proved that the world is round . Magellan was from Portugal . But he sailed for the king of Spain on September 20 , 1519 , he left Spain with five ships and 240 men . He thought he could reach the Spice Islands of the East by sailing West . but he didn't know that the world was so big . he didn't know that there was a great ocean between America and Asia . Let's follow Magellan's voyage on a map of the world . We'll start at Spain . Magellan started there . It took him over 2 months to cross the Atlantic Ocean . In November , Magellan first saw the coast of Brazil in South America to the La Plata River . In March of 1540 , he arrived in southern Argentina . There he stayed for the winter . When spring came , he sailed again , and in October he discovered a strait . We now call the strait the Strait of Magellan . It is 360 miles long . It took Magellan thirty-eight days to sail through this strait and into another ocean . Magellan called it the Pacific Ocean because it looked so calm . The word Pacifico means calm in Spanish . After Magellan and his men sailed in to the Pacific , they didn't see any land for almost 100 days . They ran out of food and had to eat oxhides , sawdust and rats . At last they saw the island of Guam . They stopped there and found food and water . Again they sailed west , and in April of 1521 they reached the Philippine Islands . Magellan was killed there . He himself did not sail around the world . But some of his men did . Only one of the five ships with thirty-one men returned to Spain . This ship sailed around the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa stopped for a short time at the Canary Islands , and arrived in Spain on December 21 , 1521 . It took these men over two years to sail around the world

Sailing around the world

Magellan is Portuguese. He decided to sail around the world. He sailed for the king of Spain. He started from Spain with 5 ships and 240 men, they passed the Atlantic ocean to the coast of Brazil in la plata, then they sailed to the southern of Argentina. They stayed there for the winter and in spring started sailing again. Magellan found a strait to the pacific ocean and they passed through it in 38 days. Because Magellan found the strait, it was called Magellan strait. After they passed through the strait, they reach to a ocean that they called it pacific, because it seemed calm and quiet. In this ocean they didn’t see any land for about 100 days. Next they arrived in Guam Island, then arrived in Philippine where Magellan was killed. Magellan couldn’t finish his trip around the world but some of his friends could. Only one ship and 31 men returned to Spain.

To cross: a lot of cars cross the bridge every day.

Strait:

Calm: Our neighbourhood where we live is calm and quiet.

Run out of: Poor countries run out of food.

Oxhide: we can make shoes, leather, bag and … from oxhide.

Sawdust: there is much sawdust on the floor in a carpentry workshop.

Cape: There aren’t any capes in Caspian sea.

I wrote this text from a reading book . I don't attention to the date that is true or not .Now , I look at the book again but I typed something that is in it !!!!
you're right it could not be correct that Magellan arrived in southern Argentina at 1540 whereas his men finished voyage on December 1521 .

Sailing around the world

Although Magellant was from portuges but he sailed for the king of Spain. His cruise proved the men could sail around the world. He didn’t know the measurement of the world and a great ocean between America and Asia exactly so he wanted to sail East to West with five ships and 240 men. He stared at Spain and traversed the Atlantic Ocean, and then he arrived in southern Argentina and stayed there till spring. He sailed again and discovered the Strait. Then they embarked into another calm ocean so Magellan called it Pacific Ocean. They had no food and water for about 3 months. After they arrived Philippine Islands Magellan was killed there. Although he couldn’t sail the world but some of his fellow travelers with one ship return to Spain and did Magellan’s half done work.

Unfortunately he was killed in Philippine and out of 5 ships and 240 men of his company only 1 ship and 31 men were able to travel around the world and came back to Spain after 2 years of voyage. He was a very brave man and the Pacific Ocean was first named by him also a strain between South America and islands around it was named after him as Strain of Magellan.
