I don't understand whats being discussed here completely but I can tell you this:
Mayn't is an archaic word which is rarely used in English speech nowadays.
I go to the trouble of deciding whether I must use or not "the" before the words like "Earth" or "Mars":13:
Anyone can help me?, especially in the above-mentioned cases
Thanks in advance:11:1
Would u tell me where I can use "all of" structure, e.g. which sentences are grammatically wrong:
I hate all of these books
I stayed awake all of the night
All of pains are curable except loneliness
Hello dear friend
At first I have to tell you that the article “the” is used just for “sun” , “earth” and “moon” not for any other planet or star such as this
The sun
The moon
The earth
And using the for mars is not correct
.
“The Mars” is completely wrong but “the earth” is correct.
Have fun
Hello again
You asked for the usage of “all of” as much as I know it is used for these three structures
1- all of + the + noun
Example: all of the children ran away
2- all of +object
Example: all of them came here
3- the term “all of a sudden” means suddenly
Example: all of a sudden it became cloudy and began to rain
I know it has several usages but that was all I knew I wish that it could help you.
According to my structures it seems that the sentence “I hate all of these books” is correct referring to second structure
Your second sentence is also correct referring to structure no 1
All of + the + noun
All of + the + night
But the last sentence doesn’t seem right
If it were “all of the pains” or “ all pains” it could be correct from the grammatical point of view
All of the pains are curable ……
All pains are curable ……..

Really thanks for yr time n attention:11:, yr answers were complete n clear
Thank you once more:10:

i don't understand these lines of text about stative & dynamic verbs:
A stative verb is one which asserts that one of its arguments has a particular property (possibly in relation to its other arguments). Statives differ from other aspectual classes of verbs in that they are static; they have no duration and no distinguished endpoint. Verbs which are not stative are often called dynamic verbs.
explain these two topic extender for me with example
thx
مثلا I am knowing this !!! ... بی معناس ، چون know یه فعل stative هستش در اینجا و زمان نمی گیره ...
یه روش دیگه هم اینه که نمیشه این افعال رو تحمیل کرد یا به کسی اجبار کرد .. مثلا I forced him to know the answer !!! ... اینم بی معناس ..
از افعالی که معمولا stative هستن : seem - believe - think- containt
Would u check these sentences grammatically?
1-choosing a name for my company is getting difficult for me
ٌ2-When I was walking on the street, someone was following me
Thanks
I don't see any problems ... must be OK ...نقل قول:
about the second sentence , better to change two parts :
someone on was following me , when I was walking on the street
hey dear what do you think is it correct here?( choosing) i think no need for ing Verb ??نقل قول:
i think you should use simple form of the verb i mean choose
choose a name for my company is getting difficult for me
what do you think about this sentence ?
i think when we use ing verb we should use to be too but here no to be verb need at the first
it's my idea
but i am not sure
masters should tell it
نقل قول:There is nothing wrong with that structure, it also is very common
we usually use verb+ing at beginning of sentences to show two actions are occurring at same time
It also prevents repeating starting every sentence with "he" or "she"
It has other usages but I'm in no mood for explaining more, you can search on the internet
Good Luck:40::11:l

Past Perfect Progressive
When we should use them

نقل قول:hi dear Mahsa
every one of these tenses needs 2-3 pages of topics..I have the source in English and I'll translate them all soon.
I put the english source for you here
good luck:11:l
1. Use of the present perfect
The English Present Perfect tense is used to express actions which have already been completed, or perfected, at the time of speaking or writing. In the examples given below, the verbs in the Present Perfect tense are underlined.
e.g. I have done the work.
She has answered half the questions.
In the first example, the use of the Present Perfect tense emphasizes the fact that, at the time of speaking or writing, the work has already been completed. In the second example, the use of the Present Perfect indicates that, at the time of speaking or writing, half the questions have been answered
l
2. Formation of the present perfect: Regular verbs
The Present Perfect tense of any English verb is formed from the Simple Present of the auxiliary to have, followed by what is generally referred to as the past participle of the verb.
Most English verbs form the past participle in a regular, predictable manner. These verbs are commonly referred to as regular verbs.
The past participle of a regular English verb is formed by adding the ending ed to the bare infinitive of the verb. For instance, the past participle of the verb to work is worked.
Thus, the Present Perfect tense of the verb to work is conjugated as follows:
I have worked
you have worked
he has worked
she has worked
it has worked
we have worked
they have worked
The present perfect continuous
a. Use
The Present Perfect Continuous tense is used to express continuous, ongoing actions which have already been completed at the time of speaking or writing.
In the following example, the verb in the Present Perfect Continuous tense is underlined.
e.g. The bus has been waiting for one hour.
The use of the Present Perfect Continuous tense in this example indicates that, at the time of speaking or writing, the bus has completed one hour of continuous waiting.
b. Formation
The Present Perfect Continuous tense of any English verb is formed from the Present Perfect of to be, followed by the present participle of the verb. For instance, the Present Perfect Continuous tense of the verb to work is conjugated as follows:
I have been working
you have been working
he has been working
she has been working
it has been working
we have been working
they have been working
Thus, it can be seen that the Present Perfect Continuous tense has two auxiliaries. The first auxiliary is have or has, and the second auxiliary is been.
The past perfect
a. Use
The Past Perfect tense is used to refer to a non-continuous action in the past, which was already completed by the time another action in the past took place. In the following examples, the verbs in the Past Perfect tense are underlined.
e.g. She had heard the news before I saw her.
I had finished my work by the time the clock struck twelve.
In the preceding examples, the verbs had heard and had finished are in the Past Perfect tense, and the verbs saw and struck are in the Simple Past. The use of the Past Perfect tense indicates that the actions of hearing the news and finishing the work were already completed by the time the actions expressed by the verbs in the Simple Past took place.
b. Formation
The Past Perfect tense is formed from the Simple Past of the auxiliary to have, followed by the past participle of the verb.
The Simple Past of to have is had. In spoken English, the auxiliary had is often contracted to 'd. For example, the Past Perfect of the verb to work is conjugated as follows:
Without Contractions
With Contractions
I had worked
I'd worked
you had worked
you'd worked
he had worked
he'd worked
she had worked
she'd worked
it had worked
it'd worked
we had worked
we'd worked
they had worked
they'd worked
The contraction it'd is less frequently used than the other contractions, since it is more difficult to pronounce.
The past perfect continuous
a. Use
The Past Perfect Continuous tense is used to refer to a continuous, ongoing action in the past which was already completed by the time another action in the past took place. In the following examples, the verbs in the Past Perfect Continuous tense are underlined.
e.g. I had been waiting for two months by the time I received the reply.
He had been thinking about his friends shortly before they called.
In the preceding examples, the verbs had been waiting and had been thinking are in the Past Perfect Continuous tense, and the verbs received and called are in the Simple Past. The use of the Past Perfect Continuous tense indicates that the actions of waiting and thinking were continuous, and were completed by the time the actions expressed by the verbs in the Simple Past took place.
b. Formation
The Past Perfect Continuous tense is formed from the Past Perfect of the auxiliary to be, followed by the present participle of the verb. For example, the Past Perfect Continuous tense of the verb to work is conjugated as follows:
I had been working
you had been working
he had been working
she had been working
it had been working
we had been working
they had been working
The auxiliary had is often contracted to 'd in spoken English.

نقل قول:well , while it's not grammatically wrong (but : technically) , it's a matter of reliability ... I mean : Cambridge is a more reliable source than a personal page in Washington university website...

I made some changes :
in addition to studying , you must be prepared for discussion, otherwise don't bother coming to class

we use "be" , because nervous is a noun and you must use it(=be) after these kinda verbs/before nouns ...
yup ... and I answered according to it ..نقل قول:
نقل قول:thanks alot but i think "nervous" is an adj~~?? isnt it?
نقل قول:نقل قول:hi there
i correct my friend's words
your right shady_er the word "nervous" is an adj and am gonna tell u more about using to be verb.
after "would" we always have bare infinitive e.g i would like to see ya. but what happen when we wanna use adj after "would" it is easy puting be and then our favourite adj e.g i would be happy if i can help sb
and remember before adj we always have to be verb and some specific verbs such as seem, look, feel et cetera.
have fun
نقل قول:yup ... in all the excitement I mixed the Farsi and English grammar roles [ برای مشاهده لینک ، با نام کاربری خود وارد شوید یا ثبت نام کنید ] ... here , there's no different whether we have N. or adj (kinda ...hmm...rationalization?!!). ... but then again you're right and I'm sorry ...
never mind dear no mater!! i always make the same......dont worry :20:نقل قول:
Hi, Can Anyone do a favour for me by choosing the correct form of below sentences:l
1. I feel the pressure/pressure/under pressure
2. I feel stressed/stress
3. The media has caused some misconceptions over/on the people by exaggerating the number of crimes
4. What kind/kinds of universities you are searching for
5. I go the distance between my house and school by/on foot
6. I love all kind/kinds of food/foods
Thanks a million
نقل قول:
As I know:
1- I feel the pressure.
2 - Don't know maybe none of them but I think it should be I feel the stress.
3- The media has caused some misconceptions over the people by exaggerating the number of crimes
4- What kinds of universities are you interested in?
5- I go the distance between my house and school on foot
6- I love all kinds of food
نقل قول:I feel the pressure ( I'm under pressure)
I feel stressed
The media has caused some misconceptions on the people by exaggerating the number of crimes
What kinds of universities you are searching for
I go the distance between my house and school by/on foot
. I love all kind(s) of foods
lنقل قول:
these/those types/kinds/sorts of + plural/singular noun
• How common are these types of illness(es)?
• Those kinds of colours look good with dark skin.
نقل قول:salam SCYTHE aziz behtare ke begi "can anyone do me a favour...."
نقل قول:Hi
Never do we use an interrogatory tone for the second part of a sentence
4- What kinds of universities are you interested in? completely wrong
Do you know where he lives?
Do you know what her name is?
What kind of books you like?
(not)what kind of books do you like?
1-I don't think that it is correct to say "I feel the pressure" , for sure u should say "I feel pressure" or as dear Archi_girl said " I am under pressure"
2-"i feel stress" seems more correct and common than " I feel stressed" so between these 2 options I choose the first one i.e. " I feel stress" as well I don't think " I feel stressed" is wrong .
Feel , seem, look…. Are some special verbs that we can use adjective after them according to this structure " I feel stressed " is correct
Feel , look , seem +adj
I feel happy
It seems easy
You look tired
…
But about this one I am not sure
3- "The media has caused some misconceptions on the people by exaggerating the number of crimes" I think even if you omit "the" it is more correct from the grammatical point of view. So it is better to say" The media has caused some misconceptions on people by exaggerating the number of crimes"
4-" what kind of universities you are searching for?" excuse me Archi_girl I think there has been some misunderstanding the structure you talked about is for informative tones and I do believe that it is right, but in here this sentence has an interrogatory tone so I don't think using "what kinds …?" is correct.
5-"by foot" is a hilarious structure and nobody uses it, the correct preposition for foot is " on"
And not any thing else so the correct sentence is this" I go the distance between my house and school on foot"
6-i love all kinds of foods
And I love you all:10:
If the below phrasal verbs mean the same without their particles? Are they interchangeable or there are differences between them:l
type/type up your handwritten work
write/write out all my assignments
print/print out the papers
take/take on responsibility
