Two Generation of Computers
Comparison and contrast paragraph
Nowadays, computers are seen everywhere at homes, offices, shops, and subways or even in the pockets! They come in different shapes and sizes and used for many purposes. Charles Babbage built the first real digital computer but was this primary computer the same as today’s modern computers? Of course not. They had some differences and similarities in comparison to today’s computers.
The first difference is in their speed. The first generation of the computers were made by vacuum tubes which were millions times slower than cheapest today’s PCs and the number of the processes done in period of time were limited. There wasn’t any operating system and programming language, so not anyone could use computers easily and the number of the users were very limited. Because the primary computers were very expensive they could be used only in exact periods of time. Also they were very large – as large as a room. So they required more space but the new generation of computers is very smaller that you can carry them with you anywhere. Examples of these computers include Laptops, notebooks and personal digital assistants (PDA).
In addition to all these remarkable differences this two generation of computers have some similarities as well. First one is the purpose of their production. Although computers are used in different organizations, the general purpose of their production and usage is to fulfill people’s needs and make people's life easier and faster. All computers consist of two main parts: software and hardware which are inseparable. A computer is not of much use without software.
In conclusion, technology have had a great progress throughout its history which leads to faster and safer computers and also a better life.
