TOKYO – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the release of its exciting new Camera Control Pro remote control software, successor to the Nikon Capture 4 Camera Control released in 2003. The new software enables simplified remote control of many Nikon digital SLR functions from a personal computer, and includes advanced features such as “Viewer” that provide substantial improvements in operation.
Camera Control Pro is compatible with Nikon’s latest software, including Capture NX (to be released in Summer 2006), for smoother image processing from shooting to transfer and storage.

Major Features
Take Control of Your Photography — Remotely
Using the included USB or Firewire cable and/or optional WiFi adapters for select models, Nikon Camera Control Pro enables you to capture unique images no matter what the subject. Imagine positioning the camera in a remote location at a sporting event so you can freeze the end of the race right at the finish line, or from a unique angle above the playing field so you can relive that great score. Or keep yourself out of the picture at weddings to capture candid shots of guests as they arrive. Wildlife and nature photographers will love setting up the camera near a bird’s nest, or in a bluff so they can take that once-in-a-lifetime shot. Industrial photographers can safely place the camera at special locations to record critical elements of the manufacturing process. And law enforcement and government agencies can now use their cameras for continuous surveillance purposes using the software’s built-in intervalometer function. The possibilities are endless.

Viewer function
Enables captured images to be viewed within the software. Viewer window contains the following buttons: “Previous image”, “Next image”, “Show focus area”, “Fit to screen”, “100%”, “50%”, and “Delete”.

Tone Compensation Curves can be saved in camera
In newer Nikon digital SLRs, including the D2Xs, customized Tone Compensation Curve data can be saved to tailor the camera’s behavior to the photographer’s vision and improve efficiency when using multiple cameras at the same time.

Improved graphic user interface
A simulated (camera) LCD panel on the computer screen performs the same function as the camera’s viewfinder display, and has been modified to be consistent with those used in the latest cameras for smoother operation. It is also possible to control the camera from your personal computer without having to use the control menu on the computer (the control menu can be hidden and the simulated [camera] LCD panel used exclusively).

Compatible with Nikon’s Image Authentication Software*
Image data can be transferred and stored without affecting the authentication function.
* Available in summer 2006

Compatible with Wireless LAN
In addition to supporting USB cable connections, Camera Control Pro offers compatibility with the optional Wireless Transmitter models WT-2 and WT-3*. When attached to a digital SLR, the WT-2 and WT-3* enable remote shooting and setting via a wireless LAN over WiFi.

New features for the Photoshop CS3 beta include the following:

- Non-destructive Smart Filters
Smart Filters are Photoshop filters that are applied non-destructively, and that remain live and re-editable. To apply a Smart Filter, select one or more layers and choose Filter->Convert for Smart Filters. The selected layer(s) will be converted to a Smart Object, to which you can apply filters non-destructively. Smart Filters appear as parameters under the layer to which they have been applied. Edit the Smart Filter mask to adjust the filter’s effects on different areas of the image. Note that any filter is treated as a Smart Filter when you apply it to a Smart Object.

- Quick Selection Tool
The new Quick Selection Tool creates selections by painting the general area of interest. Photoshop CS3 analyzes the image to complete the selection automatically. To remove pixels from a selection, hold the Opt (Mac)/Alt (Win) key and paint. You'll find the Quick Selection tool in the same slot as the Lasso tool in the Tools palette.

- Refine Edge
The new Refine Edge feature offers a simple, flexible way to modify the edge of any selection. Available via the Options bar or via the Select menu, the Refine Edge dialog lets you smooth, feather, contract or expand the current selection by using simple slider controls. Experiment with the Radius slider to select irregular or fuzzy edges.

- Automatic layer alignment and blending
Using automatic layer alignment and blending, easily combine the best parts of multiple images of the same scene into one "best" image. Simply place multiple, related images on separate layers in one document, and let Photoshop CS3 analyze the contents, moving and rotating the layers so they overlap as precisely as possible. Then use the masking tools to reveal the areas you need from different layers to finalize the elements of the composite image. Automatic layer blending seamlessly blends the color and shading into the final image. The "Auto-Align Layers" and "Auto-Blend Layers" commands are both found in the Edit menu. Note that you must have multiple layers selected simultaneously in the Layers palette before you can apply these commands.

- Vanishing Point with multiple, adjustable angle perspective planes
One of the most powerful new features of Photoshop CS2 is now even more flexible. Vanishing Point adjusts brush strokes, healing and cloning as you paint over its perspective planes. In Photoshop CS3, you are no longer restricted to adding planes at 90-degree angles. You can now quickly and easily create multiple planes in any image, connected at any angle. In addition, artwork (for example, a product label pasted from the clipboard) can be wrapped around multiple planes simultaneously. To adjust angles of planes, use the Alt/Option key when dragging on a side point of a plane, or enter a specific angle in the Angle field in the dialog.

- Black and White conversion
Advanced black-and-white conversion is now simpler and faster. With the new Black and White adjustment, one button analyzes the image and offers conversion settings. Fine-tune your image with simple sliders that control the conversion of each color. Click and drag any portion of any image to adjust the corresponding tonal range (for example, click and drag on a red car to lighten or darken all red tones). The improved Channel Mixer adjustment includes new black-and-white presets, the ability to save your own settings as presets for reuse later, and the new Total indicator that keeps you informed on the total percentage contribution from all three color channels.

- Enhanced Adobe Camera Raw
Camera Raw 4.0 now features Fill Light, Recovery, and Vibrance controls; a parametric tone curve; sophisticated black & white and split toning controls; and more.

Features:

Unique interface suited for pen tablet use.

Typically programs require constant access to the Shift, Alt, or Control keys. This forces you to adopt a posture of hovering one hand over the keyboard while the other is over the tablet. These modifier keys are not required when using MoI. This makes it possible to adopt other postures such as leaning back in your chair with the tablet on your lap. It also means that MoI can be operated in a "heads-up" manner where you don't have to shift your gaze down to look at the keyboard, and it also enhances working on a TabletPC where no keyboard is easily accessible.

Another common pen-related problem is caused by a heavy reliance on right- and middle-click, for instance for view manipulation. Although right-click is available on the side of many pens, many people find it awkward to use since it is easy for the position of the pen to shift quite a lot when you slide your finger up to hit the button. This is also different with MoI, since view manipulation can be accomplished using the view controls at the bottom of a viewport.

These differences make a new, more ergonomic workflow possible when using MoI with a pen tablet, and keeps things more streamlined and simple even if you're using a mouse.
