close to the meaning of :
خرابكاري كردن، اشتباه فاحش
and to make a mess out of something
also has a close meaning to the phrase you've mentioned.
aslo there was this one there:
put one's foot in it
means:
نسنجيده حرف زدن، گند زدن
example: I really put my foot in it by telling my brother's secret at the party last night.
