Thank you for writing to Windows Live Mail Desktop Technical Support. My name is Edward and I gather that you have been getting an error when you synchronize your Gmail account through Windows Live Mail Desktop. I understand the importance of resolving your issue immediately
While we are in the process of investigating this issue, please male sure that you have configured your account properly by following the instructions below
First Enable POP in your Gmail account
a. Sign in to your Gmail account
b. At the top of any Gmail page, click "Settings
c. In the orange "Mail Settings" box, click "Forwarding and POP
d. Select "Enable POP for all mail" or "Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on
e. Select the action that you want your Gmail messages to take after they are accessed through POP
f. Do NOT click "Save Changes" until after you complete step 2
2. Configure your Gmail account in Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta
a. Start Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta
b. On the "Tools" menu, click "Accounts
c. If you have already created a Gmail account, select it, and then click "Remove
d. Click "Add
e. Select "Email Account," and then click "Next
f. Enter a display name, and then click "Next
g. Enter the e-mail address of your Gmail account, and then click "Next
h. In the "My incoming mail server is a POP3 server" box, select "POP3
i. For the incoming mail server name, enter pop.gmail.com
j. For the outgoing mail server name, enter smtp.gmail.com, and then click "Next
k. Enter your Gmail user name. Make sure to include @gmail.com
l. Enter your Gmail password
m. You will be prompted to help us improve our products by joining the Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program. Select an option, and then click "Next
n. Click "Finish
o. On the "Tools" menu, click "Accounts" again
p. Select your Gmail account, and then click "Properties
q. Click the "Advanced" tab
r. Under "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)," enter the value 465, and then select the "This server requires a secure connection" check box
s. Under "Incoming Mail," select the "This server requires a secure connection" check box. The number in the box will change to 995
t. Click "OK
Your Gmail account has been successfully created
3. Return to your Gmail account settings page, and then click "Save Changes
4. Test your Gmail account
a. In your folder list in Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta, select the account
b. On the Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta toolbar, click "Send and Receive
Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta will display the status as it synchronizes with your Gmail account
