شاید شما نیز تا به حال با این موضوع فکر کرده اید که چگونه از محتوای گفتگوی دیگر افراد یک شبکه مطلع شوید. به عنوان مثال در یک شبکه کوچک کاربران در حال چت کردن از طریق نرم افزار یاهو مسنجر می باشند و هر کدام از آنها در حال صحبت با طرف مقابل خود . حال شما قصد این را دارید تا از محتوای گفتگوی افراد و پیغام های دریافتی آن ها مطلع شوید. این کار در واقع عملی ناپسند و غیر قانونی می باشد ، اما گاه افراد در مواقع ضروری به این نیاز دست پیدا می کنند تا دیگر افراد زیر نظر گرفته و از محتوای صحبت ها مطلع شوند. روش های متعددی برای این نیاز موجود است و ابزار های مختلفی به این منظور طراحی شده اند. بیشتر کاربران برای رفع این روش ار KeyLogger ها و نرم افزار های جاسوسی ای استفاده می کنند که اقدام به ذخیره سازی متنون گفتگو می کنند تا کاربران به مراجعه به آنها از محتوای حرف ها اطلاع یابند. این روش در بسیاری از موارد با مشکل روبه رو می شود زیرا کاربر نیاز دارد تا بر پشت سیستم قربانی خود در شبکه قرار گیرد و نرم افزار خود را در آن نصب کند. اما نرم افزارهایی نیز توسط شرکت های امنیتی ارائه شده است که به صورت مستقیم اقدام به نمایش محتوای گفتگوها و یا دیگر اطلاعات می کنند.
