(GNU Image Manipulation Program)برنامه دستکاری تصاویر گنو که با نام اختصاری GIMP شناخته می‌شود، یک نرم افزار آزاد است که برای ساختن و پردازش تصاویر برداری و عکس‌ها به کار می‌رود. این نرم افزار تحت مجوز GGPL قابل استفاده می باشد. از مصارف این برنامه می توان به ساختن آرم و لوگو، اندازه‌گیری مجدد و آراستن عکس‌ها، تغییر رنگ‌ها، نزدیک کردن تصاویر، برداشتن تصاویری که لازم نیست و تبدیل فرمت تصاویر اشاره کرد. همچنین ساختن تصاویر انیمیشن ساده نیز با این نرم‌افزار امکان‌پذیر است. در یک دیدگاه کلی گیمپ نرم‌افزار آزاد جایگزین برای فوتوشاپ می‌باشد.

مزایای استفاده از گیمپ

از آن‌جا که GIMP‌ یک نرم‌افزار آزاد است و به رایگان از اینترنت قابل دریافت است، هیچ هزینه‌ای برای نصب بر روی تعداد زیادی کامپیوتر ندارد. به علاوه، توزیع آزاد آن باعث می‌شود که در اینترنت قابل اشتراک باشد. نهایتاً این نرم‌افزار وابسته به هیچ کمپانی منفردی برای به روز کردن و پشتیبانی نیست.

انواع فایل که توسط نرم افزار ساپورت می شود.

گیمپ قادر به بازکردن و ذخیره تصاویر با فرمت‌های زیر می‌باشد:

گیمپ قادر به باز کردن (و نه ذخیره‌سازی) پرونده‌های تصویری با فرمت‌های زیر می‌باشد :PDF document (.pdf)

گیمپ قادر است پرونده‌هایی با فرمت‌های زیر را ذخیره کند، اما قادر به باز کردن آن‌ها نیست:

* HTML(.html)
* C programming language (.c, .h)
* MNG animations (.mng)

سیستم عامل هایی که این برنامه را پشتیبانی می کنند:
گیمپ برای کاربران برخی توزیع های لینوکس شامل Ubuntu و SUSE و Mandria به عنوان ویرایشگر پیش‌فرض تصاویر است در دسترس است. گیمپ در محیط ویندوز نیز قابل استفاده است، اگرچه استفاده از آن باعث در هم ریختن میزکار می‌شود. این برنامه با استفاده از X11 قابل استفاده روی سیستم مکینتاش نیز می باشد.

- Change the Text Tool to perform text editing on-canvas (GSoC 2008)

- Map the 'Linear Dodge' layer mode in PSD files to the 'Addition' layer mode in GIMP

- Add support for loading 16bit (RGB565) raw data
- Add palette exporter for CSS, PHP, Python, txt and Java, accessed through palette context menu
- Add plug-in API for getting image URI, for manipulating size of text layers, for getting and setting text layer hint, and for unified export dialog appearance

- Add large variants of round brushes and remove duplicate and useless brushes

GEGL:

- Port the projection code, the code that composes a single image from a stack of layers, to GEGL
- Port layer modes to GEGL
- Port the floating selection code to GEGL
- Refactor the layer stack code to prepare for layer groups later

- Add File->Debug->Show Image Graph that show the GEGL graph of an image
