Sony Ericsson reveals Xperia ICS update roadmap

Sony Ericsson's R&D center has obviously been making significant progress with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Xperia lineup, as the company is now ready to talk specific dates.
A post on the company's blog has pledged a start of the updating process for the Xperia smartphones to the latest Android version at the end of March/early April 2012. The first batch of Sony Ericsson phones to get a taste of ICS includes Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray.

The update rollout for the second wave will begin from the end April or the start of May 2012. At that point the other seven Xperia smartphones eligible for an update will start getting in - Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active. The only non-Xperia Sony Ericsson to get an ICS update, Live with Walkman will also join this second group.
And don't worry, Sony Ericsson will make sure that you will be properly notified when the time to update your phone comes.

Apple AppStore makes 6x more revenue than Android Market

t’s time for another research. It is about the most popular mobile application stores and is done by Distimo.
The first and more important thing is the Apple's App Store generates six times more revenue than the Android Market. The calculations are done over the 200 top grossing apps. The App Store on the iPhones is still earning four times more than the Android Market, while the one on the iPads is doing twice as good as the whole Market.

The in-app purchases are gaining lots of popularity too - half of the revenue from those 200 top grossing apps in the App Store comes from in-app purchases, while the Android Market's share is even bigger - up to 65%.
The Chinese App Store downloads have grown a lot bigger compared to January this year. Check the picture below, it compares the US and the Chinese downloads.

Finally, the Windows Phone Marketplace is now the fourth largest store - its total number of available games beats the one of Amazon's Appstore, the Ovi Store and the BlackBerry App World.

So, the Android's Market might be catching up with the App Store, but the Apple's platform is still the most profitable one for the developers.

Firefox for Android gets updated to version 9, focuses on improving the tablet experience

Firefox on Android may not have had the same success as its desktop counterpart but Mozilla has not given up hope and so right after Firefox 9 for the desktop computers came out they have released Firefox 9 for Android.

The main focus of this update is improving the UI experience on Android tablets. The browser now shows all the open tabs on the left side of the screen after you drag it out as large thumbnails. To make efficient use of display space, the thumbnail view switches to a simple drop down list for tabs when you switch to portrait mode and the browser goes full-screen. There’s also something called an Action Bar, which is basically like the drop down menu in the top-left corner of the desktop version of Firefox, wherein it has all the additional options such as Add-ons, downloads and preferences.
Apart from the tablet optimizations, Mozilla has also added support for HTML5 input tag for camera access, so that developers can now include functions on their websites which can directly launch the camera from within the browser. They have also added support for HTML5 form validation.

LG reveals Android Ice Cream Sandwich update schedule

LG promised us an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich for their phones released this year and they plan to keep that promise. To assert this, they have just announced a release schedule for the Ice Cream Sandwich update.
The updates will start rolling out in two waves. The first wave will begin in Q2, 2012 and it will cover the following handsets: the LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse.
The second wave of updates will begin in Q3, 2012 and will cover the following handsets: the LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.
This has to be by far the most comprehensive update schedule we have seen to date from any Android OEM. LG has been slow with the Android updates till now, choosing to launch their phones with an outdated version instead but like Sony Ericsson they have slowly learned the importance of timely updates and now seem to be doing an even better job compared to the likes of Samsung and HTC.

HTC آپديت 7 گوشي اندرويديش به ICS رو از طريق FB تائيد كرد

HTC confirms ICS update for 7 smartphones via Facebook

HTC's Turkish branch went just confirmed through its Facebook page that 7 of the company's smartphones will receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update this month and then took it down.
The devices in question are the Sensation, Sensation XE, Sensation XL, Amaze 4G, Rezound, EVO Design 4G and Vidid. There's also a word on the HTC Thunderbolt, which should receive the ICS update by the end of Q1 of 2012.

It's still uncertain which of the unconfirmed HTC droids will get the ICS treatment, but things are obviously developing quickly so we should know pretty soon.
