Valencia reach agreement with Chelsea for Juan Mata
The transfer appears imminent after the Spanish side confirmed a move has been agreed in principle for the Spain forward, previously linked with Arsenal and Tottenham this summer
Valencia have reached an agreement in principle with Chelsea for the transfer of Juan Mata to Stamford Bridge, the Spanish club have announced.
The Mestalla outfit added that Mata's transfer to Chelsea is only subject to the player passing a medical with the Premier League side, with no indication of the figured involved in the deal.
Reports in England and Spain claim Valencia have accepted a €30 million offer from Chelsea after having allegedly refused a first bid of €25m.
Mata, 23, will become Chelsea's fourth signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of Oriol Romeu, Thibaut Courtois and Romelu Lukaku.
The Spain international - who is the second Valencia star to migrate to the Premier League in just one year, after David Silva signed for Manchester City - was also being courted by Arsenal and Tottenham.
Last month, Goal.com revealed Mata had no interest in moving to White Hart Lane due to Tottenham's wage restrictions and lack of Champions League football, while Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger ruled out making a bid for the player just last week, following the departure of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona.
Mata, who joined Valencia from Real Madrid B in 2007, was part of the Spain side who won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
He also played a leading role in the La Roja outfit who won the European Under-21 Championship in Denmark earlier this summer, being named in Goal.com's team of the tournament.
